Its just the fitness, Umesh was fit as a tank, had a genuinely smooth action and the follow through. Aaron had an start stop runup with little movement of non bowling arm, it used to be stif and close to the body, only at the time of load the left arm will come in the mix. Hence you'll always feel as a crippled person is running when Aaron used to take his runup. That match vs SL, where Varun and Umesh bowled super quick under lights, itched to my memory as commentators were duly surprised and mentioned multiple times that this duo is the fastest Indians have ever seen...Varun was 146-152, Umesh was in 143-149 range. Sadly Varun injured himself after 4.1 overs. bouncers, RAZPOR, Mosher and 2 others 1 4

He was more durable and had a better action than Aaron, not to mention being taller. It's just that he didn't have that elite accuracy that defines great bowlers. And, increasingly, I've come to believe that it's a function of the type of bowler you are. Over the last 45 years, almost all your elite fast bowlers have pretty much been front on bowlers or semi front on bowlers. Marshall, Ambrose, Wasim, McGrath, Cummins, Bumrah , Steyn, Donald - they've all been front on bowlers. Front on or semi front on bowlers may not generate as much lateral swing and but they tend to be much more accurate in terms of line. Umesh was a bit more side on and he didn't bowl as accurately.

Umesh is shorter than Aaron probably by about an inch. raki05 1

He is taking is light it seems...not putting his max effort. Makes sense as long as he is able to up his game when needed.
singhvivek141 Posted February 22 Posted February 22 Pandya is bowling slow as well. At 125-130 kph. Against Pooks..both Bumrah and Hardik were +5 kph bouncers and express bowling 2

Vk1 Posted February 22 Posted February 22 what is this mindboggling strategy of Sundar over Axar. Gulf in quality is too big to prefer Sundar over Axar. Axar will get picked in most top intl teams Sundar will hardly get into Zim or Pak tapandrun 1

Think SA has 3/4 LH batters hence sundar was picked, they should have developed Verma+Sky+rinku for this job express bowling 1

Mindless is a small word to drop Axar for Sundar of all players express bowling 1
