Fontaine Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 He's been bowling well since NZ and he's been bowling well in this series. The key has been that he's bowled with more accuracy. When he's accurate then he doesn't have to worry about leaking runs, and then get enough deliveries with good wrist/seam position. The real test though is going to be when much better in form batsmen decide to attack him. What does he do then? That's what seperates average bowlers from very very good ones. It's relatively easy when out of form, back foot batsmen aren't taking you on and playing defensively.

Why does Ishant Sharma need MSD to tell him how tall he is and prod him to bowl short with aggression? You’re supposed to be a freakin fast bowler with nearly 7 years of international experience, you still need a 3rd person to push and prod you?! Aaaaaaaaaarghhhh..! 90% of Ishant’s mediocrity in international cricket can probably be sourced back to attitudes like these. He seems like the modern day Javagal Srinath. Srinath was an unbelievable quick with all the gifts and talents to be top-5 fast bowler. But it was his meek attitude that probably cost another 100 wickets in test cricket. He shrunk at the first sign of aggression from the opposing batsmen and never truly believed he could just blow them away

This is normal on a cricket field.

zep1706 Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 Well he is being patient. He used to try too hard and give away easy runs in the process. Now even when he is not getting wickets, he is keeping things tight and bowling in the right areas. That's an improvement.

That's an improvement.[/quote'] for me it is the biggest thing .. yesterday he was going under 1 rpo in his first spell and this is same guy who used to give one short and wide ball every over in australia he gave 5 runs in 7 overs at start of 2nd inning and england went no where even with partnership and when ball moved for him he got wickets of cook and bell earlier on he would have given runs in first spell itself and never gotten chance to get wickets after wards

He needs to keep working hard on his fitness. If you are not fit, you cant be a fast bowler. There is no place for complacency. Hopefully will do well next game.

Hopefully will do well next game.[/quote'] Most teams desire 3 good bowlers with the 4th as weakest link being someone who supports and is in & out of team on a rotational basis TBH I don't think we will get to the point where we have 3 premier bowlers who will be a mainstay regardless of conditions and venue; Shami, Bhuvi, Ishant..... whatever the pool is will go through phases of good and bad & this is why we will keep seeing someone who was flavor of the month becoming the ire of fans next series. As good as Bhuvi is doing this series (batting helps too) Shami may completely outshine him in the next series depending on conditions & competition But yes point about fitness is very valid- also not sure if you saw the analysis of bowling actions in this match; I am concerned about how long Bhuvi will last because he bowls with his back really arched and head coming over his arm whereas the modern action in bowling for long term is you bowl with head coming under the arm on delivery. so its now only fitness its also wear and tear & bowling coach needs to make sure that long term is considered besides short term
