You think after So many years as captain he asserted Himself on a bowler last test .Do u not remember how he asked mishra to bowl around the stumps to clarke and got him a wicket.He does it regularly but when it backfires he criticizes bowlers and says they did not bowl line and length but when it clicks he takes credit.I would have loved if he did not take credit my respect for him would have risen.

It is a team win and that is what it remains. As far as what I give him credit for is concerned - in the past in similar circumstances, Dhoni used to just let the match slip away by just going through the motions. No innovative field placements. No new bowling ideas, no change in approach. He just let the bowlers bowl whatever garbage they wanted and he would spread the field out and be super defensive. So, the change for the betterment for me was that at least he was willing to do something different when things were not going right.

On a serious note have to consider the formats separately Don't agree with the biggest freeloader tag- thats just stupid but yes when you get a lot of success as a leader whether because of yourself or others you do get a long rope and he is certainly getting that in tests where he might not belong anymore unless he can prove that his captaincy + wkt keeping is so vastly superior that he doesn't deserve to be replaced The problem is that the chances that the likes of Saha/Kartick have had have not been translated and the only other viable captaincy choices is struggling with form right now (Kohli)

Let the bowler get the credit... You don't have to discuss tactics (so early) in media... As a captain, let public guess the tactics... He is a wicket keeper batsman,who other than Gilly has had more impact? Maybe Saha can replace him overseas,but i still think we were lucky to have Dhoni come through in the time that he did,miles ahead of pappu/dk/uthappa. I also believe he may offer more as in tests,if he were to give up captaincy and focus more on his batting

Now that Dhoni has discussed his short ball tactics in public, it'll interesting to see how Indian batsmen cope with the 'return of favour' by England bowlers in the remaining 3 matches... I think the young Indian batsmen have so far shown immense patience in batting... Pretty interesting duel coming up...
