You need to keep the scoreboard ticking atleast between 50-60 SR and rotate strike freely. If you dont rotate strike and make 20 runs off 60 balls, the bowler will get you anyways. Dravid had this problem early in his career, but he sorted it out, improved his SR and made many more hundreds.

There is no doubt Pujara unnecessarily went into a shell. Esp post lunch when he just couldn't get the ball past the inner ring. Perfectly hittable deliveries were studiously patted down. You just don't go ultra defensive on such a pitch in Australia and get away with it.

I don't understand this obsession of strike rate in test cricket. Anything in 60s is pretty good. Not everyone can score fast. It should be that way. So when we get tough wicket we will have people to be patient and score.it gives more variety.

Other than morkel's injury and imran tahir's generosity of giving boundary ball every over, Pujara has got lot of starts but he has not converted any of them into significant ones for one reason only he is just getting stuck.

In Pujara's case' date=' it was more to do with being not in great touch, not fluent, circumspect.[/quote'] I did not say he scores slowly intentionally but that is problem for him. it may work in India as fast bowlers tend to tire out but overseas it will not work unlike Indian fast bowlers who tend to tire out and give up easy runs, other teams don't do that they keep plugging away.

Give him time, he'll come through. A guy like rohit needs to be criticised though

Pujara yes...hyped up in ICF. Vijay/Rahane >> Pujara Kohli no way been hyped up. If anything he is underrated in this forum. He is already an ATG in ODI's and soon will avg. 50 in tests.

Pujara is averaging 32 in the last 11 tests played outside the subcontinent. I think he himself will be very disappointed with this. All this talk about slow scoring rate is nonsense. There have been many ATGs with even lower ones ...like Dravid, Kallis etc. But ....reputation of all good batsmen are made in difficult away tours. Pujara has almost missed this bus. Has only 2 more tests to make amends. The South Africa tour clearly showed that he has the ability to pay genuine pace. But he must become more consistent and work out what is wrong. We can't really fault his attitude though. He is an honest trier.
