Terror group ISIS using Indian Mujahideen to recruit poor Muslims in Kerala, TN, J&K: Sources

New Delhi: Even as the whole of Iraq and Syria cower under ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) threat, central security agencies in India say that the terror group may be spreading its tentacles in India. Sources told CNN-IBN on Tuesday that the terror outfit, which has already killed thousands in Iraq and Syria in a deadly pursuit to establish an Islamic Caliphate, is recruiting poor Muslims in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Jammu and Kashmir. The security agencies say that more than 100 Indian men could have already joined the ISIS in Iraq. The terror group is radicalising poor Muslims through online videos, they say. The sources add that an Indian Mujahideen man wanted by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) could be recruiting for the ISIS and that these recruits could be used to strike terror in India once the war in Iraq and Syria ends. The NIA is currently preparing a dossier on ISIS activities in India. It all began when four Kalyan boys took a trip to Iraq and then disappeared. Soon similar reports started pouring in from families in Jammu and Kashmir and Tamil Nadu. Most disappearences were preceded by a letter begging forgiveness from the family and expressing a desire to join the cause of jihad and fighting to save Islam. According to the NIA, the recruitment drive has been on for at least a year now. ISIS is currently fighting in Iraq and Syria but its idea of a greater Islamic Caliphate includes India and several videos exhorting Indian Muslims to join the cause have been uploaded on YouTube. Investigators say that the man behind the digital mask could be Indian Mujahideen's Sultan Abdul Kadir Armar, a resident of Bhatkal in Karnataka. With recent arrests of Indian Mujahideen terrorists, Indian agencies were upbeat about their fight against terror but the worry now is that if Indians have indeed joined the ISIS, they might use the new techniques and weapons to strike terror in India.

Kerala is on the teetering edge. Muslims have grown from 23% of the population a decade back to over 25% now. And still they are given full privileges of minority including reservations in govt jobs. God knows why. A lot of these folks are unskilled and madrasa educated, and with the tightening of emigration to Gulf countries, a lot of these youth are unable to find a proper job, in time turning to these stuff. The hindu population is less than 50% now I think. And that too is factionally divided in half into Nairs and Ezhavas who rarely intermingle. Out of this 50% hindu population, a substanital % are communist sympathisers. Communist parties are more communal than muslim parties in the state in pandering to the minority. I am not surprised at all. There are FB groups with nearly 100K followers where you can find these guys abusing Modi, BJp and praising Saudi Arabia. Like a section of Pakistanis these guys think Saudi is a heaven on earth and that all these are descendants of arabs who migrated from there :hysterical: Good thing is that the main muslim party - the IUML is kind of secular and is acting as a counter force to these extremists although if this continues, IUML isn't going to win the tug of war.

Tbf in TN even the Muslim parties (like TMMK) are doing lot of campaigns to create awareness about ISIS and Islam against terrorism . Also don't think its just the poor muslims that are vulnerable as the report says .Often Muslim people who have radicalized thinking tend to belong to well off middle class families

Now a days they catch people mainly through social media. But its still possible to involve poor people by giving them minor jobs initially and later in doctrine.

Though this does sound like a good solution, these people will eventually create more problems for India if they are just allowed to go. Catch them and put them in jail for threatening National Security.

There is no doubt a big chunk of muslims in Kerala are educated, and I have a lot of muslim friends, with whom I actually discuss all these and they even agree to some of it. I'd say 10-20 yrs back, Kerala social harmony would be one for advertisments, people of different religions mingled extremely well and without prejudice. But of late, that has undergone a remarkable change. The social gap between people of different religions have widened, the distrust has increased. One of the things attributed is the inflow of gulf money into muslim households, including hawala and the likes. Muslims also have bought significant amount of land in the land boom of last few years. Of course there is also element of jealousy on part of hindus at this sudden change in fortunes. All these added to that. Plus as usual politicians trying to utilize this to their gain by utilizing these to instigate communal riots.

You know what happens if these people get arrested right?
He will say to arrest them now, but as soon as that happens, you will see a post about how Modi is worsening the communal situation by arresting Muslims.

For all the talk about demonizing Kerala Muslims' date=' I haven't heard of any riots in Kerala for years now.[/quote'] Most go unreported in mainstream media This happened only a few days back http://www.thehindu.com/news/national/kerala/dyfi-activist-killed-in-gang-attack-near-kozhikode/article6814781.ece This a few months back http://www.thehindu.com/news/national/kerala/12-injured-in-cpimiuml-clashes/article6152476.ece Don't let the CPIM tag fool you for this being political more than communal. it isn't.
