Best Backfoot players in the current side?

I am not talking about who has a great all-round technique in the current squad etc....there are 2 types of batsmen-ones who are predominantly front-foot(like most S.C players) and the ones that are predominantly back-foot. Simple cricketing logic 101- To be successful in Australia you need to have a solid back-foot technique- There is a reason why VVS Laxman and back in the day G.Vishwanath(from what I've heard and read) always did well in Australia. Opposite applies to subcontinent conditions. Even an ATG like Ponting sucked in India because in India you have to be a predominantly front foot player,Now Ponting is a great player and might be strong all-round but the fact that he found difficult to adapt in India due to his natural technique. In the current squad there is a reason why Ashwin looks so much like VVS at the crease because I think he is predominantly a back-foot. player as well and so far in his 2 innings in Aus has looked really comfortable...Vijay seems to have a strong back-foot technique as well. So far none of the players seem to have adapted or made little changes to help them on these bouncy tracks, because yes Adelide was flat but there is always a difference between flatness of a S.C pitch and Flatness of the Aussie/South African pitches. I am just Assuming about Vijay though but apart from Ashwin is there any back-foot player in India...Kohli's style or stokeplay looks a lot like ponting but he is a front-foot player as well.

:hmmm: are you suggesting anyone? :dontknow: Not a good time to be his fan but we know that form is temporary...class is permanent :sshh:
Why send me into a spiral again :nervous: Joke Just saying that a backfoot player usually succeeds in these conditions,in the current squad don't see anyone and yes Rohit included :haha:

how do u define back foot play ? i think most of our right hand batsmen are pretty good playing on backfoot its not just about pull shots or hook shots its more about being able to stay back and play bounce and control your shots and i think rahane is pretty good at that and because of his balance he controls bounce pretty well.

Good case can be made for Rahane but I am taking about a particular technique and not how good they are on front or backfoot strokeplays Take the example of Sachin or Dravid, equally good on front foot and backfoot but they are still predominantly front foot whose first instinct is to reach to the pitch of the ball. VVS on the other hand first instinct to shuffle on the backfoor and whip it to the leg side-trait with most wristy players-Azharuddin,Mark Waugh,Saeed Anwar. Clarke is a front foot player where as Ponting is back foot. Not assessing how good these players are on a particular shot but based on how their technique is predominantly defined.

Every player has a natural style and they should surely adapt to a certain degree but if they try to change their game, they are gone... Lets take examples quoted above - VVS and Ponting.... From what we saw, both are predominantly backfoot players...we can even agree that Indian pitches are favorable to front foot play and Aus is favorable to backfoot play - exceptions apart... Now, VVS has been successful in India and Aus too....I don't remember VVS dancing down the track or even play defensive front foot strokes in India...he was a predominantly backfoot player even in India... Now...Ponting...major reason for his failure in India is because he tried to be front foot player in India which was not his game...look at his dismissals in India....poking his foot down and getting caught bat-pad,caught at slip,etc... Point I am making is...adapt to a certain degree but don't abandon your natural game...if you can't pull/hook....don't ( assuming you have some defense to leave/avoid or better if you have the collingwood trickle to fine leg shot )...you will get full balls...then capitalize....

Dhoni. He puts india on back foot right from the start of the match.
:hysterical::hysterical: But on a serious note Ashwin hands down for me.

Kohli. His feet movements are amazing. Just look at the way he was using the crease against Lyon on the 5th day crumbling pitch. Every player was struggling against him (incl. Vijay) because they were playing on front foot. But Virat was just going back deep int the crease and was picking easy singles.

Pointing wAs front foot player ..no way he was back foot yeah he was probably best puller of ball ever but he was always going forward and only went back when ball was short His first movement was always forward on front foot playing drive etc Now a days everyone if you are to become good test cricketer needs to have balanced game and most of batsmen do well enough with short stuff
