Thinking more about the process, less about the result - Dhoni at the toss.

If the "process" yields the same results again & again' date=' then its time to either change it or discard it.. But end of the day one is only judged by results[/quote'] Yeah ... No one is arguing that! What are you on about? But when you are playing the match you have to focus on the process. You have to think about bowling each and every ball as per your plan. Or when batting, playing every ball on it's merits. As soon as you start thinking "Oh we're 2-0 down" or "Oh crap, we haven't won an overseas Test in X amount of matches" then that's simply a distraction. That's all Dhoni is saying.

just that Dhoni can be a bit more positive and say that he wants to win a match by doing whatever it takes.. harping on process again & again will irritate a lot of his supporters now that he has said it fewtimes over the years & has zilch to show for it

Yep. The thing with ICFers is that when they don't like someone, anything that person says will be irritating for them. What he said makes perfect sense. The only thing is that India are being let down by poor execution and poor tactics. But that is part of the process that they need to fix up. They have to be more consistent with the ball and apply pressure for long periods of time. Only then will the results improve. You can't actually "focus" on the results.

ICFers are a different breed altogether... :--D but you have to admit that most of us genuinely want India to do well in the game and want to see atleast one overseas win in Aus/SA. Alas, that day may never come with Dhoni & his "process"

Not that I think Kohli is going to be a silver bullet for Indian cricket but it's at least something new.

If you take Dhoni's comment just today then it may sound ok. Problem is .... Dhoni has been using this statement as an excuse only during away tests .... when he has actually lost or is almost sure of a loss. You have to take his statement in context and not literally. I have never heard Dhoni say before an ODI in India that it is about the "process". Every sane individual recognizes that this game is not won by a single action. There are many many tedious steps which ultimately bring a win. We also recognize that team building is an important step. There are going to be some disappointing series after the seniors have left. What fans are disappointed about are the abject surrenders, the devastating whitewashes, repeating the same mistakes over and over again, not showing enough fight and then justifying all this by talking about the "process." I personally would like to know about the "process" too. Analytical interviews would be nice. But not only after overseas test losses or before overseas test matches. Results are important too and I would like Dhoni to accept some responsibility for losses just like he took credit for Ishant's short ball barrage... after the famous Lords test win.

Keep bowling the garbage in between some tight bowling and expect result ? Blame captain all you want but till we don't learn how to bowl to a plan don't expect results
When in 4+ years, you have changed each and every player in the team except the captain, that is when you have to take a call. You are trying to portray that the captain somehow is the innocent victim here when he is the one having a completely free ride for years with zero accountability and pride When the team is defeated even before taking the field and captain makes such statement, how on earth will young bowlers have any fire? Dhoni has completely failed to motivate his team and players so much that I thought even blind supporters like you must have run out of blaming other players (as each and every one has been changed). Apparently not, let us blame every single young guy who has come into the team in the last 5+ years and leave a veteran experienced captain go scott free with excuses. Dhoni has completely undone the progress we had made in test cricket in last 10 years till we became no 1. His time was over long ago but we are still paying the price of retaining him past his test sell by date. As a result, the damage done to India team, with defensive and defeatist mentality drilled into each young player and bowler will be seen years after he is gone

There is nothing wrong in the statement. Its no different than saying keep your basics right and you will get results a statement i have been listening to ever since i started watching cricket. As fas as Dhoni goes his time as test captain is up, has been for some time now. These are his last two tests as captain and post world cup would be the right time to hand it over to Kohli both test and ODIs. That said issue i have with some posters is they blame anything and everything on Dhoni. 1st test Kohli as captain scored two 100s however 2nd test he got single digits so should we now blame Dhoni that he isnt able to get the most out of Kohli in test cricket? today sami and ishant were bowling absolute garbage which resulted in some strange field positioning, yet almost everyone was down Dhonis throat. We have a young team, we are searching for bowlers, we dont have slip fielders, we are trying to fill a gap left by David, Sachin and VVS. Which team can fill such a huge gap without hiccups. I wrote this in match thread as well, nothing wrong in what he said but the problem is this process is wrong for this team.

I think at this point Dhoni simply chooses to make comments that would piss off fans. He's almost laughing at us knowing he can say or do whatever he wants because some higher power has his back.

Instead of always talking about processes and results he should talk positively of giving their best of abilities to compete.... He gets blame because even after being a very powerful captain, he failed to shape a winning and competitive team... He back few players for reasons best known to him while leave other players to fend for themselves... There's something inherently wrong in his process(es)....

Dhoni himself is not following what he preaches... As a wicketkeeper he should be trying to take catches, try to convert half chances... Just an example of his flawed process...
