He has become too timid. For each failure he is getting more and more timid. He is ultra defensive and ultra careful about not losing his wicket . No real fluency in his batting. Ian chappell picked that as well. When Pujara gets going in tests he usually scores rapidly. He is trying very hard to live upto the hype . +1.. Also Rahane is very edgy at the beginning and then goes for attacking shots.. while Pujara is too careful in the beginning, settles in and then some how gets out.

But he has failed repeatedly this year. He seems unhappy about missing out on ODIs and T20 but now he is in danger of losing his test spot too. Phil Hughes scored centuries early on vs Steyn but later struggled in test cricket. Opposition find weaknesses after 1st few series'. But still should keep backing him.

If you look at stats, they don't look good at all but if you've seen him bat. He's no way a FTB. He does the hard bit of playing the bowler out initially. He's just been unlucky not to go on. We've seen that once he gets going he can really turn it on. Jo'burg 2nd innings. We just need to be patient with him.

Not really. In that innings Morkel was injured and Steyn was unusually off color, finishing with 1/165. Just because a batsman scores a hundred in SA does not automatically mean he is good to score any where. Home average of 75 and away average of 30 after 27 tests (that is not a small sample) is a telling stat. He may be just in poor form lately, but I guess we will know the right answer in another six months.

Let's not read too much into averages :poink: Murali Vijay didn't have a 50 in his first 4 tests, 5 ODI's and like 7 T20's overseas. Then u know what happened... But it's his technique, he tuk tuks but atm is struggling to defend well enough to not eventually get out. He is stuck on his crease and being dominated by Lyon. Had 1 bad decision rest were fair dismissals. I still think he will come good eventually. But is any of these Indian batsmen gonna become a 50+ avg great I dunno :nervous:

That's how Pujara plays naturally. He is slow initially and once the bowler tires he cashes in.
