Please explain me. He had talent I agree but his performance on field is pathetic. Ishant was termed great talent for that spell against Ricky Ponting.Not looking at stats,thats something we get while watching cricket not depending evrything on cricinfo.Amir was great talent,and he didn't play as many matches as Ishant(his own mistake) to make a comparison.

Don't know why it is thought that he would have maintained this and gotten even better. There was also the likelihood that he would be in the wilderness by now. Yeah, I remember this paki bowler Mohd Zahid who was considered among the fastest bowlers in the world. But he got injured and his career went nowhere.

Some of the statements here from "fans" insecure about our Indian fast bowling reserves are really poor. Amir was a WC test, who committed a very wrong deed. That doesn't take away his talent, nor that of Asif. The duo, IMO, were better than the likes of Southee-Boult, Morkel-Philander-Steyn, Anderson-Broad, Harris-Mitch, etc. Amir, even at that young age, was better than all of our current pacers.

If Amir and Asif weren't banned you wouldn't be saying this. Infact it's not just Pakistan the quality of bowlers compared to the 90s is very low anyway.

But you got to agree he underachieved immensely as per the stats in OP. In fact I rate Junaid Khan as a better bowler. He bowled some amazing spells in UAE roads where as Amir's stats in Sri Lanka is for everyone to see. I am very excited for his return. We have to wait and watch if he can improve his stats.

Junaid Khan was more experienced when he began playing Tests, etc. For the first half of Amir's (short) career, his record wasn't anything special. But, he began to really improve in the latter half, before throwing it all away.

How he would have been per /better than Dale Steyn by now if he was not banned. How he was more talented than Akram at the same age. But lets look into some of his stats: In Australia - Avg 40.37 In New Zealand - Avg 43.71 In SriLanka - Avg 43.50 That is terrible stats for someone who has been hyped over the moon. He only had one good series in helpful conditions of England where he avg 19. So was he really a great bowler or just been hyped up? He and Asif both underperformed and fixed matches against NZ and Australia. The Sydney test in particular was an absolute embarrassment.

And he did actually get 6 wickets in his first match (vs sri lanka) though then got no wickets for 2 test matches. Junaid is a very good bowler but he seems to have lost his inswing.

We lost our nerves at few key points hence 2-0 behind could so easily have been 1-1 or 0-1.
