maniac Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 Reynolds FTW..... In my school after 8th std Fountain Pens were not allowed as you are not allowed to write board exams with fountain pens....so don't recollect using one in a long time. It was either Reynolds or Pilot Love Hero Pens though

Yeah, there are good reasons to use it, but handwriting isn't one of them. Handwriting improves by having a smaller tip and traditionally fountain pens had it. The same old causation/correlation discussion again!

The same old causation/correlation discussion again![/quote'] Have you used both in your life? I have used both, and I have noted that fountain pens better my ball pen handwriting by at least 50%. Probably because with the smaller tip, the friction is less and hence the control, while fountain pens offer better "grip" on the paper and avoid unnecessary deviations while writing.

There are options like stub, cursive italic, music nib, etc. as well which help to give you an unique writing experience. With flexible nibs, you can get different line variations. Let's not forgot the option to do calligraphy with a broad / stub nib. Much like how a sports car needs the right conditions and equipment to perform, fountain pens need the right set up too - nib, ink and paper to perform at their best. Additionally, you can do cool things with it such as: SkZxWS5Kta8 While it is debatable whether fountain pens improves your handwriting vs. other writing instruments, it is not debatable that they provide a superior writing experience in general (with the right set-up), which in turn could make you want to write more (vs. say type), which in turn could improve the handwriting :icflove:

Tried them once while in school many many years back but hated them as the ink used to get spread. :cantstop: Also it was harder to write than say gel pens/ball pens. I'm not particular about pens and prefer light weight pens that can allow me to write fast. + I have a habit of losing them so don't bother with the expensive ones..
Cricketics Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 I loved those pens which were very smooth. I think they call them "Ball Pens" in India. In early classes, schools at my time didn't allow me to use those and always wanted us to use a Pilot or a Gel Pen, but there was something about writing with ball pens. You could write so fast with it compared to gel or pilot pens.

gslv Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 Being a doctor never bothered about handwriting. Some times I am not able to to read what I have written in my notes. But on prescription I tend to write clearly.
