South africa was hard done by the weather and the stupid DL rule.

Agreed, the 4th team Pakistan in this case gets an unfair adavantage, but that can be handled with the addition of the qualifier and eliminator as in the IPL.

Would be awesome and very exciting high pressure games with more riding on them right now you can win 3 games against minnows and end up in a QF. not fair. lets say Aus wins 6 out of 6 in grp A but has a terrible day against the 4th from group b, so in effect it will be out of the tournament having lost 1 game while the other team would be in SF having possibly lost 3 already

And they have gone through enough trials to prove that they are there. Right now lets say NZ finishes first in Grp A and Pak finishes 4th. NZ are likely to win 5 or 6 of their games while Pak will prolly sneak in with 3 wins. BUT Pak might just play out of their skins one game and they are in the Semis! How is that fair when they are likely to be comforably not even the 2nd best side in their group?? and who says FIFA WC is an ideal format. I much prefer the home and away aspect of champions league. Best side always comes out on top in a 2 legged affair
