TNAmarkFrmIndia Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 Still remember when the Champions Trophy was coming up in 2013, there was not much anticipation or expectations from the Indian team, as it was mostly a younger, new look team which we were fielding in the tournament. Of course, we know what happened next. India completely dominated the tournament and were deserving winners. Then there was the 2014 T20 World Cup. Again, there weren't many expectations from the team as we hadn't really done very well in the T20 World Cup since winning it in 2007. Besides, results in T20s is more of a lottery. And again, we dominated the tournament, unlike any team had before in the tournament, before losing in the final. This time again, there weren't many expectations from the team. We've had a pretty dismal year playing overseas last year, and we weren't able to win a single game in the entire tour of Australia. Even England, as pathetic an ODI side as they are, were able to beat us. People predicted that we would get thrashed by the likes of Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, and yet here we are, with South Africa, who completely obliterated us in the ODI series in South Africa, getting bundled out for 177. Had someone said we would beat South Africa by 130 runs in Australia a month ago, they would've been laughed off. So one needs to ask, does India play beyond their ability in ICC tournaments? Are we a beast when the big show (no, not Maxwell) arrives?
sensible-indian Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 Seems so. 1. Won the WC 2011. 2. Didn't do well in T20 WC 2012. 3. Won CT 2013. 4. Finalists in T20 WC 2014 (if not for bloody Yuvi - could have won that too). 5. WC 2015 - looks good as of now inspite of the conditions not suiting us at all.
TNAmarkFrmIndia Posted February 22, 2015 Author Posted February 22, 2015 Tbh I'd be pretty happy if we are able to reach the semifinals. Not expecting much more than that.
kosingh Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 I'm curious to see how we do chasing under lights in Australia.
TNAmarkFrmIndia Posted February 22, 2015 Author Posted February 22, 2015 I'm curious to see how we do chasing under lights in Australia. Still surprised that Dhawan has been able to play in CT 13 mode after over a year of being, barring a few patches, almost completely out of form.

We played pretty well imo just unlcky. We only lost to Aus in the entire WC yet got knocked out
gakgupta Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 We played pretty well imo just unlcky. We only lost to Aus in the entire WC yet got knocked out I remember the shane watson knock which kind of knocked us out of the tournament.....Also conditions needs to be blamed, as the ball was not turning in the second innings before of excess dew....just unlucky.
gakgupta Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 Title of the thread should have been " Is Dhoni as big tournament Captain?"
sweetaskandy Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 This generation - yes. Fearless players - mental strength is #2 to Aussies.
amiret Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 Probably , if we ignore the ICC Champions Trophy Tournaments of 2004 , 2006 & 2009. There are rumors that India even lost to Pakistan in a couple of those ICC tournaments . But the historical records of those matches have been lost , so it is impossible to verify.
Bumper Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 LOL! We've just won one meaningful game, nothing to crow about. The game if anything, has just raised our hope and spirits. Instead of resigning to the fact that we won't compete here, we suddenly believe that this team can make it to the semis. I'd not read much more than this right now.
mancalledsting Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 Guys steady on- we've only won two games
Texy Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 Indians play way too much cricket including mom n pop tournaments that does not inspire. I feel like the inspiration playing for your country in big, imp tournaments gives them that extra push.
nitinbwj Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Tbh I'd be pretty happy if we are able to reach the semifinals. Not expecting much more than that. I believe we can beat NZ in Semis or Final..aussies at home are unbeatable.
jonas10 Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 The real question is Pakistan a beast when it comes to Cool and Cool cup?
sensible-indian Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 ippadi usuppethi usuppethi ... ....odamba ranagalam aakitanga. :cantstop:
