Few reasons i have come to know of about who people settle down here 1) Quiet a few want to get away from inlaws, relatives everyone else for good 2) Living Quality (That is primarily a motivating reason for many) 3) Cheaper school expense (If it is not private) 4) Better Pay 5) Better social status 6) OPPORTUNITIES In India competition is so intense that i won't find a job if i go back there.
And these are all honest and respectable reasons and are unlike the one she gave.

There is more freedom for the average women in the US or some of the other western countries than India. You just need to be a woman or travel with one to understand it. These reductio ad abusrdum's are camouflaging the main point.
look at what's written there.
At parties, while traveling, I await with fear for the question to come up. Are women safer in my country now? Is India really developing? Have things started to change? What about all those protests? Did the Nirbhaya case change India? I wish it had. But I know it hasn't.
Yes, women have more freedom in US but are they safe there?

my observation: the 2nd generation asian kids in UK are "mostly" either a) tamed if they are Indian and try hard to imbibe into the white society. i find a lot of 2nd gen Indian kids very ashamed of their parents' identity and India. The only way Indian kids will be accepted or even semi accepted is to go the Russell Peters way - completely and wholly discredit and disavow the Indian identity. b) If they are paki then they are very deep into the ghetto culture. They dont mix well with the white kids and live in mini-pakistans in UK like Birmingham living in some sort of a utopian daydream than Pakistan is a fairy land with justice and freedom. there might be abberations to this though. most of the posters here are 1st generation and haven't exactly been to school in UK and US (not college where adults are socialized, i mean school - evil kids who are insensitive...). the very fact that there are no 2nd gen. Indian posters at ICF itself says something doesn't it.

at the end of the day just remember one thing - be in the country and do that job where you will earn the maximum. From the time you are 25 till 45 is the peak earning period wrt physical and mental stamina. be ready to go to any country to make maximum utilization of that.

Good laugh about White countries being safe and safer, Hope her kid is not caught up in any cross fire in schools then she would be whinning about that school Hope her kid is not caught up in any racial abuse events, in the west, when she would be whinning about the west whites Hope her kid is accepted as equal with other whites when they mingle with equality every time Every country has its own problem intially China (Girls legs would be chopped in early years to make her walk slowly) Japan (junko furuta) unfortunately in the above countries if situation arises she would be happily bring her daughter up lovely What a double standards, just say you are loving US and its western life style accept and move on, once in a while take a trip to India and call it as pleasure trip if u want otherwise nothing going to happen if ur daughter not going to be brought up here

Yes, the AVERAGE case safety for a woman (and even a man) is more in the US than in India.

Wait - it took the news of a brutal gang-rape for this lady to realize the risks Indian women in urban environments have to go through, even she herself was born and raised in India?! :dontknow:

The moment you use data - you are looking at macro indicators. Lets get our head out of the sand.
Reductio f**** ad absurdum. You seem to be a smart guy so you would understand what AVERAGE means - not BEST, not WORST but f***** AVERAGE cases. Let me put it this way - a woman has a higher chance to have more freedom in America than in India.

NRIs will obviously defend this lady's view-point - I can be blunt about the reasons but this forum is NRI forum so I will keep quiet for my own safety :two_thumbs_up: On topic, the lady and her ( probably ) paid editors achieved their objective - create divide between resident and non-resident Indians. Shameful

Most Indians living in USA have never ventured into the hinterland for more than a few hours which usually is in the form of a stopover (flight or a drive). Major reason why they think everything is hunky dory. Although, even if they experienced anything unpleasant first hand or became aware through their social circle, they will simply skirt around - part and parcel of being gungadeens and mercenaries.
