I mean he took some important wickets at critical juncture and that turned the series....I though it was just fluke or just bad batting by india... Now he has proven that he can be handful against NZ and Now OZ... Just now he got a wicket of warner..... He looks to me like a piss poor bowler.... No ZIP...not too many revolution...no drift...no flight....so whats working?????????

Clarke Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 I thought he gives decent revs on the ball, besides the fact that the current generation isn't too good against spin. Earlier set of batsmen had to score against Warne/Murali while these days Yasir, no disrespect to him, has the record of an ATG.

Warner wicket was a good example.. he got tonked for two boundaries in first over but he didnt lose his line and length.. plus, i think he has that subtle variations that sometimes gets overlooked by batsman..

You have to wait. But todays t20 gen wants to thrash spinners but they're no Veeru. Especially this current Indian lot, they unnecessarily threw their wickets away vs Moeen.

This is how our Fab 4 used to play good spinners in their prime. Ali is good but not one of the best so you can score of him. But if you try to attack him like Warner tried to do he will get you. Also I think Swann has set a good example for English spinners. There is merit in good old fashioned virtue of trying to flight and spin the ball. Ali has doosra but does not go overboard.

Veeru was dismissed by spinners quite frequently after 2010, but before that when he wasn't that attacking batsman he didn't thrash spinners like these batsman are trying to do. I thought he was always selective in attacking the spinners. I mean he used play with the spin and according to field whenever he decided to go after them and he was good at it.

Not really, Actually of 6 wickets he has got in series so far, only once batsman got out playing defensive shot. Remaining 5 times it was batsman who got out playing a offensive one. Speaks volumes about quality of his bowling.
