Sachin=GOD Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 His advisor who was with him yesterday told this story - when they were going by car to the program there was an open security jeep ahead of the car in which Dr. Kalam was travelling. In that jeep 1 guard was standing the whole way. Dr Kalam saw that and said that he should sit as he would get tired - the message was relayed to the guard through wireless but he was doing his duty so he didn't sit. Dr. Kalam requested him to sit down many times but he remained standing the whole way. The moment they reached their destination Dr Kalam got out of the car and went to that guard and asked him how he was feeling and whether he wanted to eat/drink something. Such greatness and what humility. The ONLY way our politicians can honor such a man is to learn such things from him.

G_B_ Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 such humility. Thats what set him apart from others. I am not even an Indian citizen. I have never met him in person. But as somebody who works in the defence industry I can tell you he was respected globally for his determination to push India through as a nuclear power. A lot of people dont know but he had to put up with a lot of red tape in his time. He used his position as president to make a lot of changes to the way DRDO is run (for the good). Many overlook his qualities of being thoroughly practical minded. In a DRDO which has/had a "committee/meeting" culture he stood out as somebody who got things done.
