As a kid I used to complain when my dad compared me to other kids. "Mr Malhotra's kid got 98 out of 100 in the Math exam. You got only 82!". "Mr Sharma's son won the inter-school science competition! You didn't even participate!" "Mr Arora's son plays the piano! You just play video games!" This dad is doing the same thing. To a 38 year old. Publicly. That too one who has achieved so much. On one of the most emotional days in his son's life. Criticizing him and comparing him to others. LOL.
I won't be surprised if Sangu has not so good bonding with his father. Otherwise he would never write such an article.

There is no age for parents to stop doing this if they are that kind. My mother in law still moans and groans about the fact that her son could have become a doctor like she wanted but he chose not to.....

No...I was asking him in general. Not pertaining to this point. Even my grandma says my uncle didn't become a doctor like she wanted him to. :haha: He does very well for himself in his chosen field.

I agree with Sangakkara's father to a certain extent though. Mahela Jayawardene is a far more talented batsman than Sangakkara and possibly the most talented batsman ever from Sri Lanka. It is unfortunate that he couldn't reach his potential. The father's getting a lot of unnecessary flak and speculations regarding his relationship with Sangakkara are probably wrong. Sangakkara comes off as a perfectionist himself so he might share similar views to his father as well. If anything he might even be pleased that his father had such high expectations of him - after all the expectations of your parents is a big motivation for any job.

Yeah Jaywardene was more talented than Sanga exactly in a similar way where Lolit is more talented than Rahane.

It is natural for a father to have endless expectations from their children, but then there is a limit to what to say in public. My father was almost always critical of me, but he would never express that in front of others. It was nearly impossible to satisfy my father regardless of whatever I did to the best of my ability. Maybe it is a father thing. My mother is very different....

Mahela is an FTB/HTB. Sanga was 2X Mahela anytime.

Well TBH....Sanga flopped in IPL and IPL is where you make all the money...what is the point of being considered a legend of the game and having not the equivalent money to show for it? May be Sanga's dead measures his son's success based on his IPL income :dontknow:

Rohit is a different case. Jayawardene was already an established batsman but also was very naturally talented IMO, so I would term that as having a lot of potential (which may have gone unfulfilled).
