(NOTE: I'm not saying Kohli is at all a flat track batsman.) I'm not defending Rohit Sharma, but I think in typical Indian fashion, the response to Rohit Sharma is extremely emotional. He's either the next Bradman or he's the worst player of all time, and he is single handedly ruining Indian cricket, and he's responsible for all the poverty and corruption in India, and he's the reason there's an Ebola crisis in Africa. Just imagine if Rohit Sharma played the same shot that Kohli played today! People would have wanted to burn his house. I think the challenge for Rohit Sharma has always been temperament. He has every shot in the book but has thrown away many good starts. Since he became opener in 2013, he has improved in that respect in ODIs. Still not brilliant but reasonably good. His away & neutral average since June 2013 has been 38 & 45 respectively. Considering that his main criticism has been that he doesn't perform away from India, I think this has been reasonable improvement. He will need to do the same in Tests if he is to cement his spot. I'm not saying he is an automatic selection, but it's unfair to discard him forever.

I think hes been given enough chances in Tests,just doesnt have any technique against a moving ball or patience required in Tests imo.Nothing wrong with being an ODI specialist and both Rohit/Raina should focus there

On the other hand, Rohit, despite being given more chances than he deserved has mostly let fans down. You can point to one series failure for Kohli. However, you can hardly point at 1-2 series success for Rohit. I don't know how you are thinking there are double standards. Both are being treated exactly how they deserve. Kohli has earned our respect and support. Rohit still has to. And no, no one thinks he is Bradman except in a mocking way like Amiret's post was

Tried to scoop faulkner once, that was the brain fart moment, and some nervous run out scare missed. Must perform in test matches now.

Great to see India managing to score well even with failuers from the middle order bats. Hopefully he continues like this.

I'm not comparing the batsman. I'm hypothesising on the reaction by fans. Rohit has been given a lot of chances, but my whole point is about how fans get so emotional about everything he does. I disagree that both are being treated exactly how they deserve. If Rohit failed, people call him a "curse on Indian cricket" and "the worst batsman India have ever produced". My point was simply that the reaction is extreme on both ends.

He averages well over 45 as an opener His issue overseas is the SR which hovers around mid 60s .If he can maintain RR like today will be great for us
