How can you interview 21 people in one day? Do they have multiple panels interviewing?

I don't believe all 21 are being interviewed. BCCI shortlists 21 candidates out of all that applied. And then the committee shortlists a group of people to be interviewed from BCCI's shortlist.  And the committee is free to interview candidates from outside BCCI's shortlist if they so desire.

It is believed that Ravi Shastri – who was Team India’s technical director till the ICC World T20 in March – and Kumble are the two front-runners for the high-profile job.

Though the 45-year-old Kumble doesn’t fulfil the criterion of having coached an international or first-class team and is also not qualified through a certification/assessment programme conducted by any of the full member countries, his outstanding record and vast experience could tip the scales in his favour.

On the other hand, former all-rounder-turned-TV commentator and analyst cheerleader Ravi Shastri was appointed as team director in 2014 by the BCCI. He has played 80 Tests and 150 ODIs and has led the team in just one Test match. In his 18-month stint as Team Director, Shastri had mixed results – good in Tests and average in ODIs. Though, under him, India managed to enter the semi-finals of the World T20 2016, the team showed little consistency in its performance.

If one goes by the buzz in the BCCI and the amount of experience, Kumble seems to be right at the top in the race.

Kumble will be given some role like a coach liaison or motivator in chief or whatever fancy name because he is too important a figure to be rejected. A foreigner will be made the head coach - if rumors are true then one of Moody, fleming or vettori.

Ill b happy with moody , vettori n kumble in same team doesnt make sense so one of them wud do. Kumble is gud as he can be strict as well dnt need some one who cnt say a word like fletcher.

Whats imp is to have gud fast bowling coach and someone who can help our batsman with short coming against playing spin .

Most imp someone gutsy to tell dhoni that boss we need to look in future, please do urself a favour n leave captaincy which shastri has already done it but i wud love if others also do so.

Mody/fleming/kumble can be good head coach. Amre defenitely can be a good batting coach as he already proved with working on guys like uthappa, rahane, shreyas iyer and making good improvement in them. I wish if zaheer has applied for bowling coach position. Streak as bowling coach won't be bad as well.

imo only shastri can be a poor choice.

1) the head coach does not have to be a specialist in any 3 aspects of the game.He needs leadership skills, must be able to hold the team together and must have the guts to try new players. There always are specialist coaches for batting, bowling and fielding.

2)If it is a player that you are going to choose, then better choose a proper spin/fast bowler . Then the bowling coach be the opposite of the head coach. That can cover both spin as well as fast bowling .

Bowlers are usually more hardworking than batsmen's so I think kumble will be the ideal option between him and shastri.

Looks like most shortlisted coaches interview sessions  are intended to be nice chit  chat sessions for Ganguly,Laxman and Sachin to catch up with their old buddies with free chai-paani provided and paid for by BCCI.

Kumble has been one of our greatest cricketers ever ....but what are his credentials as a coach ?

Mentor of Mumbai Indians.

I am not justifying that was a sarcastic statement

I dont care who our head coach would be. Most probably it would be one among Kumble/Shastri.

Hopefully the panel is sensible enough to appoint a good bowling coach. Someone who's mature, contemporary and would have the authority to take decisions without any interference.

looks like it will be between Kumble & Moody

Ganguly had told reporters early in the day that ten candidates were to be interviewed, he later said that the panel had met with six to seven candidates. He added that he could not divulge any other details and would want the BCCI to announce all further information.

Anil Kumble and Ravi Shastri were the most high-profile candidates who made their presentations on Tuesday. While Kumble appeared in person for the interview, Shastri spoke with the panel through Skype as he was overseas.

The other candidates who were interviewed were Tom Moody, Stuart Law, Lalchand Rajput, Pravin Amre and Andy Moles

If they consulted Kohli, expect Shastri to get the job. Kohli has had a lot of praise for Shastri. Credited Shastri for taking his batting to the next level in the last 12 months. In particular, Kohli has said that it was Shastri that suggested that Kohli stand outside his crease, with a wider stance -- advice that Kohli has been very thankful for.
