Is Joe Root the best English batsman you have seen?

I would say yes. Cook has been a very good opener for them but I think Root is easily the best I have seen. He has a natural flair that you don't normally see with over-coached English players. I think Joe Root can be the first truly great English batsman in quite some time.

Pietersen at his peak would be the best. Joe Root is going through a rich vein of form, need to see how he handles career troughs if and when he faces them.

I never saw KP as a true English batsman, his batting style was typical South African with lot of cross batted shots, there was no text book orthodoxy which is seen in quintessential English batsmen.

Root has failed badly in Australia and NZ and has played just 1 test in India and not even 1 in SL.  Most of his tests are at home where he averages 60.

To be known as one of the best batsmen, he needs to score consistently in different countries.

Cook is more of a grinder. An accumulator with some class.

Root IMO is the best I have seen since the 90s when I started watching cricket.

Unlike kp who has to dominate Joe has different modes as per the situation

pls watch 2007 Indian tour of England....every English player was getting single digits and he got couple of centuries....

He is class apart...

For me KP is the best English player i have seen.....

Root is not far behind....i liked his lazy elegance...but he has to prove his worth in ASIAN conditions

Root is obviously a rare talent and is doing  very well.... but to be hailed as the best batsman ever from a country with a long history of test cricket, he has to do well in test matches in  different countries and especially in India and Lanka , where the pitches and conditions would be very different from what he is used to.

I did not include KP because he learned to play his cricket in SA not England. I should have made that clear in the OP.

I did not say the best ever.

You can't argue with the numbers but not exactly the kind of player one drools over. He is too tall, has an ungainly stance, and appears to be suffering from low testosterone judging by his breasts and pear shaped physique #bitchtits #justsaying

Root sure is so pleasing to eye and boy he can bat.I would rate him the best batsman in world right now.He may not have ODI stature of Kohli  but all around he has to be the best batman.
