Why is Rahane still in the T20 team?

Raina is still the best we've got and one of the only few who can go from ball one. Plus he's selfless and throws his wkt away going for a 12 ball 30 instead of an unbeaten 18 off 14 balls.

Why is Jadeja in the team? He has hit a grand total of one six in his entire T20 career spanning 37 matches?

 

What is Bunny doing in the team? How much more are we prepared to lose to please ex cricketers with significant influence who want their useless children to play for India. 

 

Why is Dhoni still captain of the team? Heck, why is he even in the team after his cr@ppola tactics of only trying to hit out on final ball of match backfired in Zimbabwe and several times in the recent past?

 

From team selection perspective, I don't think we have learnt anything from the last WC hammering we received from WI. There are no power hitters. Only Rohit and Kohli are competent T20 batsmen and perhaps Rahul.

Couldn't agree more. We didn't learn anything from the recent WT20 where our lack of power hitting was ruthlessly exposed. And what do selectors do? Pick Rahane and Binny!!!

For the lower-middle order...a batsman who is expected to play 10 to 20 deliveries....we need a batsman like Krunal Pandya who has a SR of 190 +.

Williamson hasn't done much in T20 and if you think Rahane is on the same level as Steve Smith and Joe Root, you deserve to be part of the current Indian selection panel.

I would go for both the Pandya brothers. Hardik to replace Binny and Krunal to replace Jadeja.

Today's match once again proves how Rahane is fish out of water in T20s and why he averages 21 at a SR of 113 in T20Is. The guy is not made for shorter formats just like Murali Vijay and focus on Test cricket where he along with Vijay and Kohli is one of the 3 best batsmen we have.

Yeah, I think it is safe enough to say now that despite plenty of opportunities he has failed to kick on in this format. Today was a great opportunity. Even a 20 ball 40 would have been so useful to the team and done him a world of good. Forget 40, a quick 20 in 7-8 balls would have been a decent effort and he failed to do that also.

Rahane in t20 and Rohit sharma in test cricket are two strange mysteries which only have one answer how our think tank has failed to identify players as per format. 

Resistance to change- i mean this guy got selected over manish pandey in WC, Nair , Pandey are sitting out yet rohit is in team having 23 avg in last 16 test. 

We are yet to have few t20 specialist......whereas rest of the world is on diff planet

 

Its just that old school thinking that rahane is a class player.......ok fine so does that guarantees anything.

Williamson does not have it.

 

Smith is very good at it.

 

Root....I  haven't seen him in LOIs much.

 

Rahane is best left out of T20Is.   He plays good strokes in test matches and  ODI  upto first 40 overs...but cannot slog if needed.

Rahane's utility in ODIs will be felt on tracks that help bowlers.  But, he should open and not bat in the middle-order as he cannot bat after the 40th over.

We really need to fast track a few hard hitters into our T 20 team.

Some one like Sarfaraz Panda  should be sent to boot camp,made  to lose some weight ,drop a bit of his off the field attitude (make him stay at NCA with professional coaches,away from a father cum coach and Ammiji 's Biryani ) and the fast tracked into the team.He has some talent.

Same with Krunal Pandya .I think he is better than his younger sibling.

Risabh Pant and Kuldeep needs to be added to that list too. They need to be groomed now. We need younger guys in T20.

Absolutely.

Maybe they are but i dont think root was good t20 player before he played for England be inproved and adadpted after he established himself in test cricket.
