England announced test and ODI squad for Bangladesh tour today.

Some new names in test squad are,

1.HASEEB HAMEED-Opening batsman Hameed, who has scored 1,129 runs at an average of 52 in County Championship Division One this season, is set to replace Alex Hales, who withdrew because of safety concern.Only 1 season and he is picked to play for England.

2.Ben Duckett-22, has scored heavily in all three formats in domestic cricket, with four centuries in 15 first-class games and an average of 99 in one-day cricket.

The left-hander made 163 not out and 220 not out for England Lions in July's triangular one-day cricket.

And there is Indian selectors, who are giving extended run to failures like Rohit and Dhawan when some domestic performers are restricted to play for only A teams..Can't they give even chance to some new names atleast in home games? What's need of domestic cricket then?

Have to give credit to Andrew Strauss. In such a short time, he made a revelation both on and off the field and completely changed the face of English cricket. The problem with our board is we have members who are not ready to accept the need for change from their old thinking ways. Although our on-field performance has improved, but sadly we are still stuck with the old ways in the managemental area. Hence their constant refusal to adopt DRS, and out-of-date and out-of-style selection committee. Pfft

KL Rahul, our best batting talent among youngsters, has actually replaced Dhawan in both test matches and  T20s.

Manish Pandey  is playing ODIs.   Deserves to be in the T20 team and maybe even the test team.

Shardul Thakur got a chance in  the test match squad.  He has not been selected in the home series as less players are selected for home tests.

Bumrah had been included in LOIs in the last 1 year and has performed well.

Sran got  chances  in LOIs.

Hardik Pandya got his chances in T20s.

So...some new players are getting chances.

Rohit's inclusion in the test team has more to do with him having influential backers even outside  cricketers....nothing  related to cricket about that.

Mukund in test matches, Pandey in T20s and tests, Chahal in LOIs, Axar in ODIs , Sangwan in ODIs  and Pandya brothers in T20s...... is what  I would like as further inclusions as of now.

Maybe...Nathu Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, Ankit Rajpoot, Shreyas Gopal, Mayank Agarwal  etc. will be ready for selection in a year's time.

The selector should select some youngsters in the odi series against NZ.

They can do this in the garb of resting some regulars for the long home test series.

The selectors could select Manish Pandey,Kedhar Jadhav,Hardik Pandya,Kuldeep Yadav,Shardul Thakur

For me the biggest disappointment is the test squad for NZL series .We had a real chance to try Kuldeep yet we decided to keep Mishra .

The ODI team has been struggling since world cup.We would be better off finding consistent team XI and build confidence rather than too much experimentation.

Which player is performing so well at the next level and knocking hard on the doors of selection?  Fanboys were clamoring for Shreyas Iyer and Karun Nair as if they were avatars of Bradman and Tendulkar - look how poorly they have done on the A tour to Australia.

England, who is getting praise for selection are renowned for following a policy of giving a player one too many games, rather than chop and change.  If you want a revolving door policy for selections, look no further than PCB and their ODI team.  Banjo Kids are too impatient these days.

I'm sure Kuldeep will get a chance at some point in this home stretch.  But look at KL Rahul, he earned his way into the team.  VVS Laxman scored 10 consecutive 100s at FC level to force his way into Indian team.  Don't just expect flavors of the month to be gifted opportunities on basis of a handful of wickets or a couple of good scores.

Why dont u name some better players than Iyer and Nair in domestic cricket then, they have played on some tough pitches, yes they underperformed a bit but they have been the consisently the best batters in domestic cricket.

Please tell us why rohit sharma is  still in the team. That will tell you if this selection team is competent.

I've posted multiple times that Pujara, and more importantly Vijay should not have been benched for Rohit.  Not saying selectors are awesome or anything like that.  Merely responding to this thread, and the sentiment that clamors for so-called "youngsta beauties"  flavors of the month.  Iyer, Nair, Samson, etc  Heck, some here are pant-gasming for Rishabh Pant, the fat 20 year old, based on one 30 ball innings against a hapless Nepali u19 team.

Our selectors don't have guts and R myopic, the best selectors are consistent, have a long term plan and plan for future, here we don't see any talent introduced, no decisions taken for long term, or strengthening weaker areas, Every squad Should have atleast two rookies so we can build on bench strength, there R no efforts made to replace weaker links like Ishant, Rohit , someone like Sangwan, Kuldeep, Manish, Mukund deserved a chance, there isn't enough competition for places n thus u see mediocrity of Dhawan survive

It is okay if Indian team is Austrailian team where every single memeber was irreplacable..Hameed and Duckett recieved call after one great season. You sure Karun Nair and Shreyas iyer would have failed if selected against NZ?..No we can't.It is at home and they can perform if given chance. Then comes overseas tour after home series and our selectors will play safe again and will say new comers shouldnt be exposed to allien conditions.

England generally do not pick players unless they have done well for the A team, from that pov ideally Nair and Iyer would have scored some runs in Aus and really Pandey should have been in the squad instead of Rohit. That one change would be the only one I think they could have made, there is no one else who can come in. The three openers in the squad are there by merit and Mukund will have to wait

Dhawan is averaging only 36 in the last 3 years in test matches.  He has looked susceptible whenever there has been bounce, seam, swing or even spin for the bowlers.

...don't you think his position is under pressure ?

That 36 average is heavily influenced by hundred against Bangladesh..He doesnt have single fifty in India after mohali hundred..Nothing to show in England tour apart from 1 or 2 thirties..Half century in Australia and one century in NZ..He is worse than Pujara who is blamed for not converting starts..The differnece is Dhawan's 30s comes a bit quickly.

Thankfully, Dhawan was dropped in both the last test we played and the last 2 T20s we played.

Dhawan has a high SR ( 60 )  in test matches and that is causing a problem regarding his permanent removal as he is perceived as a good foil to the slower Vijay and no. 3  Pujara.   Having a  viable option is important and KL Rahul is providing that now.

Yeah youre right. To me he has been trying to guts it out of late, at least not throw his wicket away. I wish Mukund had gone to Aus with the A tem, he is better thn Fazal.
