Selectors are like "dumb robots", not smart robots.

Why not Manish Pandey who has been playing better than Karun Nair?

Or even better - since its an opener slot - they should pick Abhinav Mukund.

I guess Gautam Gambhir is all but assured to play in the XI for third Test.

Could even go with 5 bowlers and have ChePu open. He has done it in the past and did pretty well.

All these changes dont make sense..Gambhir is there..Even Gambhir won't get chance if Kohli goes with 5 bowlers and that is highly likely.

If I am not wrong, wasn't it Dhawan who replaced Gambhir in that series against Aus in 2013? If so, quite a turnaround this for GG.

 

But his presence in the Indian side is more harmful considering that he carries around grudges and acts like a sore loser.

For me, sheldon jackson and Abhinav Mukund are ahead of  GG and Nair

There is something about Sheldon which stands apart.....

1) He seem to have calm head over the shoulder...

2)He plays mostly on back-foot which is rare of indian batsmen (like laxman).....

3) He seem to have lots of time when playing the ball....

4) Moreover, his strike rate is not bad

Jackson looked superb against spinners but looked very uncomfortable while playing pace and bounce.  The way he handled bouncers by Nathu and Sangwan was not convincing at all.

Can he be worst than GG when it comes to short ball? That doesn't make him world class but I am just asking out of curiosity.

GG was not bad against the short ball.  He developed a weakness later in his career against deliveries just outside the off--stump and poked at them.

Pandey is a middle order batsman .
