maniac Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 (edited) I think finally we need to give up on Irfan Pathan....even 2 years back I still had some hopes for him but I think water has passed under that bridge However here are some other names that I think that have hopes of a renaissance and it will be sad if their careers are over. Jesse Ryder-New Zealand.....one of the most talented cricketers I have seen..Big fan....sad what has become of him Varun Aaron-India-career getting wasted away....needs to be in the scheme of things fast Andre Russell-Westindies-Why is this guy a T20 expert....he needs to play every WI Test and ODI games....Yes I realize all those crappy WI board politics and inefficiency.....we are losing out on a once in a generation kind of cricketer. Alex Hales-England-Still a Regular in the ODI squad but test career over for now....still think he has it in him to become a good test cricketer...with Billings and Duckett breathing down his neck...he might soon lose his spot across all formats. Yusuf Pathan-Needs to be in every T20I line up we field for the next few years at least The Australian fast bowling talent-Pattinson and Cummins etc etc-I beleive they are always injured.....they will only get match fit by actually playing a lot more games...I think Aussies have been over-cautious with them in playing them in ODI's and T20I's....play them in some meaningless bilaterals too Ishant Sharma in LOI's- The guy has a gun average and strike rate in LOI's.....right now will find it tough to break in but should be played as a back up seasoned bowler...Right now are Top 3 ODI bowlers are Shami,Umesh,Bhuvi with Pandya being the back up and then it is sad to see Dhawal etc in the next category..Sran is fine though....no way......Ishant over all these backup options 9/10 times. Adam Milne-Why is he not playing a lot lot more? Ravi Bopara-Pure Class...why isn't he playing a lot more too....I think he will fix the England middle order crisis Any more names to add? sandeep Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 Yusuf Pathan? Last IPL, he had such a big belly, I thought he may have eaten Parthiv Patel.

Kohli and Dhoni can get you the 10 RPO consistently but this guy can get you the 20+ run overs in the middle or when in zone towards the end.

Nitish Rana, Sarfraz, Pandya bros and all them are not even liabilities on field. Even raina, yuvi can smash spinner but ppl know around the world u can welcome them with pace n bounce which would be the same tactic against yusuf. I dont mind yusuf but improve that crappy fielding 1st. Atleast hold catches safely. Edited October 19, 2016 by Ankit_sharma03 sscomp32 and UnknownGenius 2

What about Dinesh Karthik n Uthappa 2 players who can play 360 deg in India. Talent n x-factor are nothing without temperament Milne is injured Ryder had some issues Hales what gr8 did he do in test against Pakistan- Avg 18. If he looses his place to someone he himself is to blame for it Edited October 19, 2016 by Ankit_sharma03
sandeep Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 Karthik was an underachiever in India colors. Guy had top order batting talent, and had decent 'keeping skills also. Athletic enough to do outfield as well. Just never did enough to lock his spot. His inconsistency and Pappu Patel's yips with the 'keeping gloves opened the door for Dhoni. And then Dhoni's all-world batting and safe keeping knocked "KKDK" out and he never made it back. Uthappa can still be a useful T20 player - I always think of 2007 WC when he comes to mind. if Vaas doesn't take that sharp caught and bowled chance in that 2007 WC game against SL, he would have set that game up. If he looses his place to someone he himself is to blame for it If Dinesh Karthik would have been atleast 75% of the keeper that Saha is,I would have wanted him to be our test keeper 9 out of 10 times...forget Karthik even Parthiv who I think is a wonderful batsman. Uthappa has lost his fearlessness and x factor that he had when he came on to the scene...now he is very ordinary. Ryder had personal issues with alcohol but I think he has kicked that habit JESSE RYDER RETURNS TO NEW ZEALAND http://www.essexcricket.org.uk/2016/08/24/ryder-returns-to-new-zealand/ Quote Jesse Ryder has returned to New Zealand after it was mutually agreed his contract would come to an end early. The Kiwi International suffered a calf strain recently and has since been hampered by the injury. With only Specsavers County Championship games left it was deemed in the best interests of both parties if Ryder returned to his home country early.

Its not only keeping with karthik whenever he has got a chance hasnt done much, he got a chance in Ct2013 n following WI series- if u cant make it count well thats it. N yes the blunders they do in keeping be it ipl or Asia cup when dhoni wasnt there Parthiv is again a solid batsman but doesnt offer that x-factor which someone like Dhoni does and he wont be of any use if he doesnt open or bat at 3 which is packed Again with uthappa, forget fearless he got a chance on Last Aussie A-tour failed completely. You have to make it count when u get a chance. They all got decent enough chances.

Apples to apples as a batsman in overseas conditions and that too in tests I will pick Karthik and Patel over Dhoni 9/10 times but yes as a keeper he is leagues ahead and also as a ODI batsman. Batting in India-Tests and ODI's Dhoni Karthik Patel Batting overseas in Tests Karthik Patel Dhoni Batting overseas in ODI's Dhoni Karthik Patel Batting in T20I's Karthik Dhoni Patel Keeping to fast bowlers Dhoni/Karthik-Tie Both suck Patel-Sucks even worse Keeping to spinners Dhoni Patel/Karthik-tie-Both suck So yes Dhoni is ahead but not as head and shoulders ahead as people seem to think.
bowl_out Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 (edited) Amit Mishra in LOIs.. Wonder why he gets so few chances despite averaging just 25 in ODIs and 13 in T20I.. Not sure if there is a slight bias given that he plays as part of second string squads against weaker teams. I remember he did really well in one of the T20 WC as well.. He should make the most of the NZ tour in Ashwin's absence and at least cement his place in the squad, if not the XI Edited October 19, 2016 by bowl_out

He should make the most of the NZ tour in Ashwin's absence and at least cement his place in the squad, if not the XI U have to see the breakdown of his wkts, His 32 wkts are against Zimb N WI. Which arent great teams either. There is no bias, He had competition with kumble bhajji karthik and now ashwin jadeja and all were better in someway or other. Macgill was a good bowler but there was warne Mishra didnt captalise also on many occasion - He got a chance last yr in Ind-sa series when ashwin was injured, Ind-eng when bhajji faked injury. If u have to replace the main spinner you have to put some stellar perfomances something KL rahul has done. Its actually his failure only when leg spinners around world he hasnt cemented his place. Even in test Jadeja being preferred as 2nd spinner at home coz he is more effective . Overseas yes mishra is right the 2nd spinner but with jayant, kuldeep, yuzi coming up it wont take long for him to loose that. As a leg spinner he is slow through and looses the plot when being attacked. The Same t20 Wc ur mentioning was of 2014 when he started so well but when he was being taken for cleaners he lost the plot for matches coming ahead. Thats what separates him from others. Someone like Ashwin would know how to comeback and hence he is ur no.1 spinner. Its doesnt help mishra that he is a complete liability on field and isnt getting younger. Its not bias or something but some cricketers are good until a level and their stats are misleading. I can tell many similar cases like him. No captain n coach would let off go an asset that to specially a leg spinner.

Most teams in the world have at least 1-2 players who can score at 150+ SR. India doesn't have any in the present T20 team, although VK can get to 150-160 at times. I think K. Pandya had an SR of around 200 last IPL... and although it's not exactly int'l standard, it's a reasonable indicator for T20s.

Pandya can fill that role, I will even have Axar ahead of Jaddu in T20s as an alrounder. Pant instead of Dhawan or Rahane as openers and Rahul at 4. Dhoni is not going anywhere for the time being at 5.
