Selectors!!!

Same squad retained for ODIs 4 and 5  (except Suresh Raina unwell so he is not in).

Same openers. Same Axar Patel, No fresh thinking by selectors.

Atleast MSD should give chances to Mandeep Singh (not that he is very good, but he is the only reserve batsman, no choices!!), Jayant Yadav, perhaps Dhawal Kulkarni instead of Umesh Yadav.

Either drop Rahane and bring Mandeep Singh, or give a much needed rest for Virat Kohli to be fresh for next series starting soon.

But again MSD is usually "we are playing the same XI" type of captain.

Would have liked Shardul Thakur to be tried.

At whose expense?  Reality is that Umesh is going to be at least in the squad for major tournaments - better that he gets more games to work on his consistency (or lack of), then giving a random guy a random game instead of a proper run.

Shardul would be competing with Bhuvi for a pacer spot - Shami is a lock if fit, so is Bumrah.  So 3rd pacer is Bhuvi, if helpful conditions or in form etc.  Or Umesh if we want to go for the pacy option.  And there's the 2 Sharmas who are around as well.  Shardul is way out of the mix.  Better for him to get a proper run in 'A' tournament or another one of those political away tours with the main team that BCCI sends to bolster its votes like Zimbabwe etc.

Creating back-up players for injuries is important too. In England, we will  play in conditions where 4 seamers will be helpful. Our top 4 pacers in ODIs are Shami, Bumrah, Pandya ( as AR ) and Bhuvi.  Only backup we have tried is Umesh.  We need to be ready with one more because 2 pacers getting injured is pretty common these days.

Umesh has improved his accuracy a lot in the beginning and middle overs and maybe a decent back-up in England with swing available.

Shardul Thakur is capable of consistently swinging the ball and is very accurate.  Which is why I want to try him and Kulkarni in the last match in case we manage to win the series in the next match.

I will not mind the out of the box thinking of going with Shami Bhuvi and Umesh with Pandya as the allrounder in England...Even though Bumrah for now is one of our top 2 bowlers in LOI's.....I have not seen him swing the ball at least with the skill level of the other bowlers mentioned

Umesh has swing and pace,Shami seam and pace and Bhuvi world class swing bowler and Pandya for his all round ability.

Wouldn't mind Ishant getting another crack at LoIs. His record is hardly worse than Umesh. And he has improved his accuracy a lot in recent times.

Other than that, would have preferred if they had rested Virat. His work load calls for better and thoughtful management.

Ishant bowls way too many no balls.

one guy we need to revisit is Jasprit Bumrah...a rare talent for an Indian fast bowler to be good at death but apart from that.....he is a poor fielder.....almost like an old school X1 with the bat......hasn't been that threatening with the newish ball..has a lot of areas to improve.

Really doubt if Dhoni is going to play Jayant Yadav when he can get 5-6 overs of off-spin from Kedar Jadhav..

Can't drop Bumrah, Yadav or Pandya.. So Dhawal stays out.. Bringing him in for Axar would make it 4 quicks...

Mandeep for Rahane is debatable.. But again, Dhoni is known to back his players and he's often called Rahane an opener..

So, expect no changes for the next ODI.

Would have liked if some changes were made but considering we are playing less odi  & most of the first choice players are injured or rested.

Selectors may have consulted Dhoni & Kumble as we know Dhoni is averse to making changes. So the selector have not make any changes.

FFS Virat needs a break before he breaks down. Tests, ODIs w/ Eng then Aus...he needs to be taken care of simple.

if this team cannot beat lowly NZ w/o Virat then this team doesn't deserve to represent India.

What is the need to play Kohli in all 5 matches? He just had a gruesome Test series, let him take some rest. At this rate, we will end up going into an important series with backup players having zero experience.

Gruesome, blood on the pitch or gruelling, not a spell checker just a funny note

Certainly it would have been wiser to rest Kohli. There is something called giving him a break so he is fresh and raring to go for England Tests. There are 5 gruelling Tests in that series!!! versus running him ragged with useless ODIs with NZ.
