Probably the worst standards of umpiring in the last 20 years have been seen in Australia. Mainly because the host team has invariably benefitted from a large majority of the horrendous decisions. Its good to see DRS actually leveling the field.

Still with DRS there is possibly 1 bad decision and that too is debatable. Without DRS, there were at least 3 wrong decisions in 1 Ind v NZ match.

 

Btw, this decisions is debatable because ball hit the boot first and then hit the pad. At first glance it seems that it hit pad first and might be missing the leg that's why commies were discussing it a lot.

with that angle, it is impossible for that that ball to hit the stumps.

correct me if I am wrong but doesn't drs have major problems on full ball hitting the pads,it seems it contradicts what we perceive as LBW.

Got to agree with this but we are trained as cricket watchers to think so but computers may  think otherwise think if this happened to us against England then it may be the last time we use this.

All the decisions in the past that we have been "programmed" to believe are missing stumps are due to the fundamental benefit that cricket laws provide to batsmen giving them the benefit of the doubt. As a result, umpires have always been reluctant to give such decisions out in the past. There has never been any scientific validation of what is perceived as missing the stumps is actually missing stumps. There was a recent DRS rule change (read here) that favored bowlers.

 

To be honest, the LBW decision by DRS is still batsman-friendly as any ball that is just shaving the stumps is still considered "umpire's call" and a batsman would be lucky if the umpire called it not out. But bowlers are not in any kind of luck for balls that are predicted to just miss the stumps. There is no "umpire's call" here and missing even by a centimeter is not out. The only thing that batsmen are missing is that the benefit of the doubt that was awarded to them has been reduced significantly.

Disaster how so? There has been 1 dubious decision and there were 3 wrong decisions in Ind-NZ series. How later is not a disaster while former is?
