so, 141 adelaide and 133* hobart  were career changing innings for him in tests & odis respectively

This is my first close look at Root's test match batting.  Its been a very good cricket season in India, first we got Williamson and now Root.  Enjoyed watching them bat.

Root is a very classy batsman, I personally rate him higher than Kohli and Williamson in tests.Steve Smith has become a beast his record is just staggering unlike others who have failed somewhere Smith has scored runs everywhere.

Agreed. Must continue to strive and push that avg over 50. Jinx achieved it briefly, and Chepu's is around 50. The latter is a HTB, and Kohli must overtake him pronto.

Stewie is the best all-pitch Test player currently. As for Joe Root, he still has a fair bit to prove in different countries (and Kohli in Eng).

Both Kohli and  Rahane are averaging 48 in tests now and I  hope they can go up over 50.

I hope so, but I'm not confident about Rahane anymore. He has far too much mental confusion I feel on Indian tracks.

Congrats captain Kohli for the win and on leading the team from the front with a great knock in the 2nd innings . He just needs to be patient and think while going for a review.

Great achievement by Kohli to be in the top 4 in each of the 3 formats.

 

In test matches, he is now averaging 52.07  in the last 3 years with 10 centuries from only 30 test matches, which includes 2 double-centuries.

 

He is averaging 50.27 away from home with 8 centuries from only 21 tests....in the last 3 years.

 

Has scored a test century in every non-minnow country barring England in the last 3 years.

 

Averaging 59.76 as captain in test matches.

He has just turned 28.

 

Batsmen usually have their best phase between 27 and 33...that means  6 more years and possibly 60 more tests at peak form if every thing remains ok.

 

Good form  till  37 or 38 is quite common among batsmen of his type.

yes he is not a hand eye coordination player, he has technique and excellent footwork and fast hands.
I see many similarity between him and punter ... punter also avg low 40s till 50 tests at the age of 27-28 then his career took off
for next 60 tests he averaged 70+ (best peak ever)
hope VK will also have such huge purple patch.

The Ponting analogy is quite appropriate - I see some similarities between the two, although Punter's pull short at his peak was magnificent.
