The second India v England Test match starting Thursday in Visakhapatnam will be a little bit special for one player - Virat Kohli, in his 50th game. India's Test captain has built up a fine reputation in his 49 Tests so far, with a total of 3643 runs at 46.11 with 13 hundreds.

 India's captain and star batsman Virat Kohli will reach a milestone in the 2nd Test against England.

 

The 28-year-old Kohli, who is, by far, India's best batsman across all three formats at the moment, is set to play his 50th Test on Thursday. He made his Test debut against West Indies in June 2011 in Kingston 

The opening Test between India and England ended in a draw in Rajkot on Sunday (November 13) and the teams are already in Visakhapatnam for the 2nd contest in the 5-match rubber.
Kohli, who already owns several records, will be the 28th player from India to play in 50 or more Tests. Batting legend Sachin Tendulkar leads the pack for the country and in the world, with 200 Test appearances.

In his 49 Tests so far, Kohli has accumulated 3,643 runs with 13 hundreds and 12 fifties. His highest score is 211. With his 50th Test in 2 days' time, Kohli will surpass Kiran More and EAS Prasanna, who both played in 49 matches each.

As a Test captain, Kohli has led the team to 10 victories from 18 matches. He is India's fourth most successful captain after Mahendra Singh Dhoni (27 wins), Sourav Ganguly (21) and Mohammad Azharuddin (14).

Thanks to Kohli, India escaped with a draw in Rajkot and will be hoping to take a lead in Visakhapatnam.

Wow 50 tests already-Just feels like yesterday  

 

Feel he has underachieved a bit,given the stature he enjoys. Apart from that purple patch he hit in Australia last year,hasn't done a whole lot.

 

Becoming a Ganguly when we want him to be a Sachin.

yes. He should have had 4000 runs by now
ponting at age of 28 had 58 matches 3700 runs at avg of 46...hopefully kohli's career will sky rocket from here on because thats how good he is

No he has not underachieved, he has scored more hundreds than any other Indian batsmen except Sunny who scored staggering 20 hundreds in first 50 tests.

 

Yes his average can improve but one really bad series against Pommies has set him back, he will  make it up this home season.

Kohli's century scoring rate is damn good in test matches

 

14 centuries in  50 tests with 2 double hundreds

 

8 centuries outside Asia in 24 tests only.

 

Needs to improve his average a bit.  As of now, it is 47.4 and he should be above 50.

 

After becoming captain, he is averaging 58   though.

Bhai...I never said he was bad...I compared him with Ganguly who was a great player in his own right.....our expectations of Kohli is that he is a Sachin level player.....He has not done anything to be at Sachin's level in tests though in ODI's and add to that his T20 exploits he is on that pedestal for sure...but despite his decent to very good record,there is still something missing there...Hope this innings will be a sign of greater things to come.

 

Out of his 12 100's before this 4 of them came on that Australian tour. His average was still in the mid 40's despite that dream tour.

 

Sachin was head and shoulders above his peers in every format consistently in every condition....Kohli is still not there.

 

As I said hope this is the start of greater things to come.

^Just to clarify my statement...not an underwhelming career by any stretch of imagination....just underwhelming when the kind of stature he has been given as the next Sachin.
