What will be the fate of Ishant Sharma's test career now?

Hope it is the last we have seen of Ishant, but I seriously doubt it. Kohli like Dhoni before him has fallen for the Ishant Sharma phasssst bowler tall pacer marketing trick. Hasn't managed a sub-30 average in any single year of his pathetic 10 year career so far. We are not so starved for pacers that we need to stick to this guy. Better to pick some players who are performing well on A tours or on the domestic scene. I would rather see Pankaj Singh given a few more chances.

I would also pick Aniket who is tall as well left armer for overseas tours.

I don't understand why Aniket is not in our A team even !

He wasn't even picked for any of the 3 teams in Duleep Trophy.

Was he injured ?

Had he got as many chances as Ishant got, he would have much better figures than Ishant.

Not really. Kohli is being smart. Kohli isn't playing Ishant as first choice unlike Dhoni. Dhoni gave plenty of chances to him and BCCI and him have spent lot of money on him. Kohli is basically saying, he will keep him since so much has been invested in him, but we won't pick as the first choice unless we have to. Kohli realizes that he can use Ishant somewhere down the line on certain tracks, but if he has to be the first choice seamer of India, he will have to wait and earn his place again. Throwing all of Dhoni's picks and selection would have suggested that Kohli is trying to be a hitler and change the whole team India the way he wants. Dhoni had lot of right picks, if not all picks. I think they are doing it right here by keeping him in the squad but letting him wait and earn his place.

I see it slightly differently. I feel that Kohli is more interested in playing Ishant in away matches than home. At home, his first two choice seamers are Shami and Umesh because of their ability to reverse with Bhuvi playing only if he perceives conditions to be favorable to seam bowling. Ishant serves as the injury back-up. Away from home though, Kohli seems to consider Ishant as a "Must Have". Hence, to accommodate Bhuvi, he dropped Umesh and not Ishant in WI.

Yes, not denying that. Infact, Bhuvneshwar might play ahead of Ishant at home even though he just returned from injury and Ishant has been part of the squad. Ishant, as you said, might be what they are interested in if they go overseas. However, Ishant is also someone who could be picked at home, if Bhuvneshwar and Shami are injured. Both Shami and Bhuvi are injury-prone and hence Ishant is a back up. Remember this was a big 5 match test series, so they had to have more options than just 1 seamer waiting. Hence they have 2 seamers waiting to play.

Agree or unless the reason is Ishant returning form chickenguniya. Otherwise, Yadav had a very good first test. taking 5 wickets. Ishant didn't. Second test, Yadav did not do too well, but even Ishant didn't do great, Yadav was dropped next game despite him doing well one test ago.

That means Aniket was not in the selectors' radar .....and the only chance he has now is if he was liked by Kumble-Kohli when he bowled in the nets to provide practice of facing left-arm seamers to our batsmen

He is almost 27...after getting selected, it takes atleast 3 years for our seamers to reach the peak if not more....that means he does not have much time on his hands.

I hope his non-selection should motivate him and make him hungry.....He can be a extremely good bowler but he is totally dump.

He completely lost it after changing his action....

Too many hot and cold performances

I guess Ishant will be the first choice after Shami when we play overseas. Shami has done well recently to be the first choice for a while. Ishant anyways has improved lately. Ishant's  pace is back at 140-147 and he gets bounce unlike the other bowlers that we've got who are more skiddy. Did decently in australia and was the most impressive in Sri lanka. So he has got a role to play in the side.

Wouldn't it be strange if Ishant is only picked for overseas tours and ignored for home games? I mean wouldn't this keep unsettling his rhythm in international cricket?

We are not going to tour overseas regularly, so if Ishant becomes an overseas specialist, he will play a series of tests a year followed by a year or more long period of inactivity, this not good for him since he's a rhythm bowler. Let's hope he plays for an England county team and find the perfect length where he can repeatedly bowl without any effort.
