What will be the fate of Ishant Sharma's test career now?

With Yadav and Shami slowly cementing their places in the test squad and Bhuvaneshwar Kumar likely to be the third seamer in coming games, where does the most experienced player in the team go from here?

Even in overseas games, I doubt Kohli will go for 4 fast bowlers, he'll go with Yadav, Shami, Bhuvi and Hardik Pandya the 4th bowler who's also an allrounder.

I hope Ishant plays more games, started to get better after 2013, bowled very well in NZ and England, also won us the series in SL.

Ishant is the only really tall " bounce bowler "  in this line-up.  Chances are, he will be our 2nd pacer after Shami when we play outside Asia.

He has done well away from home from the beginning of 2014.

Umesh or Bhuvi will perhaps be the 3rd pacer depending on conditions.

Hardik will be our seamer / all-rounder.

Yadav has long way to go still. He needs to prove his consistency. He has been terrific in this series but needs to continue the good work. Yadav hasn't reached where Shami is where we can qualify him and say that he is a sure shot first seamer if fit.

I hope he continues this bowling routine.

Not over as people claim. May still play some matches as 3rd pacer (if there's no swing, but bounce instead).

Yes, it is happy times right now with Umesh bowling well but we know from recent history that he can be very inconsistent. He bowled well in this series so far but you could see him even in his good spells thst he was often seen spraying some deliveries down the leg when he clearly had momentum over the opposition.

We need to persist with him as he is bowling well but he hasn't reserved his spot as the 2nd go to bowler already for next two games. Shami is the only bowler who is in that position for next few games. Others go to earn their place by performing well consistently.

I expect 2nd pacer to rotate between BK and Ummi based on conditions. But, in case of 3 pace attacks, it's still possible Ishant may come in

Umesh can't maintain accuracy for longer spells. I was watching yesterday. In just 4 th over he was bowling too wide of off stump. I wonder if it is same in other spells too.

Mostly yes, but has improved a bit (but not enough).

It is same. Umesh has been like this whole series. Really good at times, then little unlucky as fielders dropped catches of him and then he started trying too hard for a wicket and started spraying and then after some rest, he bowls few good deliveries again.

He is a work in progress but surely for a bowler who bowls some really good deliveries when the ball is reversing, he loses his line way too many times and hence, need to focus on working on that. Also, if someone drops the catch of his bowling, he should keep calm. It is part of the game. Stick to you line even after a drop catch, instead of trying too much.

Yes, Ishant is very much likely to play and hence he was not released unlike other players in the squad who were released to play in Ranji in the middle of the series. Kohli and management are backing both Bhuvneshwar and Ishant as our seamers and hence both of them have been kept around the team for a while. And why not. Dhoni and his team spent a lot on people like Ishant, it makes sense for Kohli to back him for now and not just change the whole bowling unit around under his captaincy tenure.

realistically speaking, Ishant is our 4th pacer at worst and in contention for 3rd pacer slot with Bhuvi.
Overseas, he will most likely get to play because we are not going to field the same 3 pacers all the time without one of them being injured.

This is probably what will happen.

If Ishant is smart he will recognize that being mediocre n being a workhorse n only objective of keeping runs down per Dhoni won't work with Kohli

He has to bowl aggressively n go for wkts, perhaps Virat will influence him in a positive way, for me now, Shami, Umesh are the first two picks

As Ishant is our only tall, " bounce " bowler ....when we play in SA, Australia, NZ and WI....I expect Ishant to be our second pacer after Shami. He has done quite well away from home in the last 30 months.

The 3rd pacer will probably vary between Bhuvi and Umesh with Hardik playing as the 4th seamer / all-rounder.

We saw the same thing happen on the WI tour when Kohli specifically stated that Ishant is our second pacer.

Umesh is the 2nd pacer in India as he is a skiddy fast bowler who can reverse the ball at pace ....and such pacers work in India.

In England and on all the grounds where there is swing on offer......Bhuvi will be our second pacer
