Cricketics Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 Big selection dilemma coming up for Kumble/Kohli if Vijay is found unfit for 4th test and Saha is available. and what if Rahul is still not available? Who opens then. If Saha is back in team as keeper, than we keep Parthiv as opener or Parthiv goes back o Ranji? Who must open with him if both Vijay and Rahul are not available. Parthiv has earned his place now as opener for the fourth test for me. I dont want to make too many changes and even if Rahul is available for next test, i will play Parthiv as opener and Saha as keeper and keep Rahul out. sandeep 1
rkt.india Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 (edited) NO, I wont play Saha if PP plays. Rahul will be back if fit. PP is useful only as opener. Edited November 29, 2016 by rkt.india
Cricketics Posted November 29, 2016 Author Posted November 29, 2016 Just now, rkt.india said: NO, I wont play Saha if PP plays. Rahul will be back if fit. So you drop Vijay for Rahul? And play Rahul/PP as openers?

Unleashed Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 Just wait and watch when it comes to Rahul. Bloke is a class act, and will be a first choice opener in XI of all the formats. Rate him quite highly and so does Virat I think. No chance he'll be dropped.
Sidhoni Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 When did Vijay get injured? Anyway Pappu has earned his place. Whoever is fit among Vijay/Rahul should partner him.
fineleg Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 Karun Nair deserves another go. Poor bloke got run out by kaptaan kohli. Bystander 1

putrevus Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 If Saha and Rahul are fit they should walk right into the team. No one should lose their spot to injuries,PP did well with bat but his value is as a keeper. If he plays just as an opener we need much more higher ceiling player a player who can actually score big runs.India is playing with just five batsmen and if one of them is PP it will weaken the batting lineup. Before the test .Back injury but played becoz Rahul was also injured we didn't have any back up bat .That's why he didn't field in slips this tests. Proper feckup by selectors not having a backup opener in the squad. Sidhoni 1
bowl_out Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 Maybe get in another opener as replacement if both Vijay and Rahul are not fit? Abhinav Mukund maybe? Does Karun Nair play up the order?
Samcric Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 Saha should come back as keeper and no.7 batsman if he is fit. Has done too many things right this year to lose out to another guy based on keeping skills. And when it comes to keeping, Test matches don't allow for anything but safe keepers. You can't take a chance with e.g. dropping Cook and him going on to make a 200. Then it is a regulation question of who should be our openers and my pecking order would be as below. Pick the first two guys available. Vijay (Bangar needs to work with him for a week on the short ball on off-stump. Too good a player to not be able to correct these technical issues) Rahul (Unlucky with the timing of his injury. Needs to let go of out-swingers in the first 8 overs. Age is on his side and he has shown he can play long innings. It would be a bit unfair if he is kept out based on two bad innings) Mukund (has scored 573 runs at an average of 64 this season) Herwadkar (447 runs at an average of 49) Parthiv (is not a regular opener even for Gujarat. Will be a travesty of the FC system if he is chosen ahead of these guys based on 2 innings where he went for the leather and succeeded. One of the innings was when opposition had accepted defeat for the most part) So, if everyone is fit, India should go back to the team they fielded in Vizag. Cricketics and _ramkumar 2

I hope that Vijay and/or Rahul will contribute something, as their series has been uneven
