If we have to induct domestic veterans over 30 instead of youngsters, might as well go with SKY....whenever I have seen him play in IPL,he has been smacking it from ball 1....actually very innovative player too

Surya's official age is 26.  Even if you account for a year or 2 of fudging.  Still short of 30.   What I like about him is his ability to hit a variety of shots - he can play reverses and dabs with the best of them, along with decent power and timing on his flick - which is his go to shot.  He has a tendency to fall over, and plays across the line too much, but that goes with the territory.   We need players like that in the line-up - right now its too easy to come up with bowling plans and field placings for Indian batting.  But first Surya has to earn his way into consideration, like Pandya did by having a monster Syed Mushtaq Ali tourney and a breakout IPL season.

Rishabh Pant

Ishan Kishan

Deepak Hooda

Krunal Pandya

Sarfraz ( not a power-hitter per se but a good finisher )

Nitish Rana

There are many others who will emerge in this year's IPL and SMA Trophy

We play one T20 against Windies in July and then one in August against Lanka. And then a lone t20 against aus in October. Selectors will forget all about these performances.

Shreyas Iyer is more a timer of the ball ......his batting style is nothing like Kohli's.

Kohli depends on powerfully punched ground shots and a good defense.

Shryas Iyer plays a lot of aerial shots, depends mainly on timing,  takes risks and his defense is sometimes a bit dodgy.

But that's what we want. Not another Rahane whose defennse is good and plays ground shots.

His ability to hit  and even play  140 k pacers is questionable.  That is the issue and that is why he has not got selected yet despite good FC numbers.

Needs to work on this aspect.

We need batters in T20Is and even ODIs, who have the ability to hit quick bowlers.

problem with domestic cricketers is they are good hitting or medium pacers bowling 130. They will have to face 90 mph bowlers in domestic cricket which most of them are not good at.

We have lots of 90 mph pacers in our national team now.  National team batters practice against bowling machines set at 90 mph and more   too.  Then there is the IPL.

We need to select 3 or 4 such guys, give them practice against quick bowling, and pick the best.

In the practice match, we "saw"   Pant hit quicks Plunkett and Ball mercilessly....so there is clear potential there.  With more exposure to such bowling, he would get better.  That is why, these new guys need to be tried in these bilateral LOIs.

Is Ishan Kishen a power hitter  ....thought the reason why Pant was getting the hype over him was due to Pant's power game.

Kishan was the second highest 6 hitter in Ranji trophy this season, 36 sixes behind Pant's 49 who scored 173 more runs than him, at an SR of close to 84. Prashant Chopra from HP was the 3rd highest hitter with 19 sixes who had an SR of 85, 3rd highest run getter this season ahead of Pant.

But being six hitter does not make a batsman aggressive or some one who could score at high SR. Ganguly was a 6 hitter and aggressive but his ODI SR is ordinary at 73. Dravid was never considered a 6 hitter and was a defensive batsman who has an SR of 70. People sometimes misunderstand being a 6 hitter and being a high SR batsman.

Agree. Most of these IPL and domestic power hitters will struggle at the international level. We still need to find that 1 guy out of 10 who  may make a good power hitter at the international level.

There will always be complaints, but IMO we do a pretty good of finding 50 over and test talent. However, we are completely  ignoring the need to also give the domestic power hitters a chance in T20i.  We are dismissing them too easily in favor of traditional batsmen who aren't always suited to the 20 over format. It may take a while to find the right guy(s), but it will pay off.

India have lost one of it's best hitter to USA, I am afraid. Jaskaran Malhotra is the name guys. No one picked him for Punjab, he moved to Himachal then, no one selected him there either. He has been amassing big runs here and everywhere in U.S and Canada and even smacked Afridi and co here last year.

He will be eligible to play for USA soon. Can't believe no IPL team ever tried him. He is also a brilliant wicket keeper.

Special mention to old veteran - Bipul Sharma, a not so popular guy from our domestic cricket. He can give us few years in ODi and twenty20 as an all rounder. He can hit the ball real big. He is 33, but he can surely play and last till next world cup if we need to try an all rounder around no. 7. I would like to try him once, at least before he call it quits from Ranji Trophy.

18 ball 30 today coming in at 7 and yesterday 3 balls 10.
