Ultimate_Game Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 No point. Either he should've captained till 2019 WC or if he couldn't he should've handed over the reins to Kohli ASAP. velu 1
Ankit_sharma03 Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 The country is obsessed with personal records and achievment over teams win. No wonder we have never been a consistent world champion or even a good side like SA. Be it legends or our fan boys Thats y i have most respect for Dhoni as he was never much into numbers. velu, Ultimate_Game, beetle and 1 other 3 1

fineleg Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 (edited) I respect that he stepped down (whether he was asked to, or did it on his own). And did it without a controversy. Also - he could have easily announced retiring from the game (if he was asked to step down), there is no need for him to put himself out there as a player under Kohli and he knows at some point, captain can exclude him from playing 11 if he goes out of form. The fact that he decided to play as a keeper/bat under Kohli - rather than easily announcing retirement - RESPECT TO THAT. It is quite possible he can announce retirement as a player - soon. That's to be seen when he decides to do that. I hope he continues longer as a keeper/bat if he can play freely and score quick runs. Edited January 11, 2017 by fineleg velu and Ultimate_Game 2

Er, what numbers could he have even reached closed to? He was definitely obsessed with taking match to last over and playing the hero and sometimes costing the team in the process tweaker and Ironhide 2

It doesnt really matter. Its no use winning other matches and bottling out when it matters.Funnily unless one is obsessed with stats no one remembers them few days later. Aussies should be template not South Africa velu 1

That might be true but I would take someone who is obsessed with numbers and strives to achieve that excellence over someone who is casual and doesn't care about anything....not pointing out Dhoni here Afridi never cared about numbers too...Is he a great? Also Dhoni didn't care for "numbers" but he did care for special characters like "*" Ironhide and Laaloo 2

They have won zilch. I mean yeah they have won most bilateral series but please only Australia have achieved in LOIs more than personal records and achievement obsessed Indians.
maniac Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 For eg; let us say a captain has a 90% win record....if he pulls back in a 50-50% scenario and goes for a draw instead of a win-yes that is wrong Now let us say a captain in such a scenario buckles down, puts false bravado aside and goes for a draw keeping his 90% record in mind-that is not bad either-Draw=Not losing. Now a captain doesn't care for either and just lets things drift...how is he better than the first 2 cases? This theory of obsesses with numbers=selfish, doesn't care about numbers=team player is very subjective.

Sout Africa is a good test team who win big moments in test but not in ODI's. They haven't won inportant moments in ODI's. We can actually teach them those things in LOI and we can learn the same from them in Test.
