SecondSlip Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 First of all I would like to congratulate Team India and all Indian fans on the amazing comeback win against England in the first odi. Well done lads! Now let's get down to business As you guys all know, the experienced veteran, Yuvraj Singh, has been recalled into the odi squad to face England! With Jadhav cementing his spot at #6 with a counterattacking century, it seems like Yuvraj will bat at #4 for now. However, I see a internal healthy competition between him and Lokesh Rahul for this spot. With Hitman unfortunately not playing this series, Rahul has to open the batting with Dhawan in this series. However, when Rohit is fit again for the champions trophy, he will immediately take his opening spot back and form a duo with Dhawan for the Champions trophy. With both openers set, Kohli set at 3, MSD set at 5 and Jadhav set at 6, I see that #4 is up for grabs. The 2 main contenders for this spot are Lokesh Rahul and Yuvraj Singh. The lad who performs better in this series will seal his spot and will be playing in our opening game against Pakistan at Birmingham! I like both players but let's face it, Rahul will be a much much better bet in the CT than Yuvraj. In the tournament, we are going up against bowlers like Amir, Junaid, Rabada, Morkel, Morris, Chameera and Malinga. I believe that most people on this forum would have more confidence in Rahul facing those guys as compared to Yuvraj. In this series, Pandey is already sitting on the bench because of Yuvraj but it won't affect us much since we're playing at home. But I don't want this to happen to Rahul as well in England, because this can be a very dangerous idea which can knock us out even before the semi final. For this exact reason, I really want Rahul to score a big big knock in either the 2nd or 3rd odi. (2 centuries would be icing on the cake!) We have a interesting internal competition on our hand folks! May the best man succeed! Tibarn and tweaker 2
tweaker Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 Rahul has been successful as a opener & we need a batsman like him at the top.Instead of Rahul ,Manish Pandey should play at no 4.Yuvraj was a good batsman now age has catched up with him.Instead of wasting time on him ,the management should play Pandey in the remaining 2 odi.
vvvslaxman Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 India has lot of young talents coming through. Don't want to put pressure on current players with deadline as it will hurt India in the long run.
bowl_out Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 Pandey vs Yuvraj for No.4 Yuvraj showed glimpses of his old form in the first ODI, although it was just a couple of boundaries.. He might get a match or two more.. Pandey would be the next best option for 4
gakgupta Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 I see...rahul vs dhawan and pandey vs yuvi Sent from my XT1068 using Tapatalk
sourab10forever Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 Dhawan will be useful in Eng. OP has a valid point.
sourab10forever Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 (edited) Yuvi's spin might not be required in Eng given we already play two spinners. Kohli might go for Rahul. All this given Rohit is completely got by then. If not then there is no debate. I prefer Yuvi over Pandey for the time being. Edited January 18, 2017 by sourab10forever
express bowling Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 Get Pant in place of Yuvraj and let Rahul open for now. Replace Dhawan with Rohit when fit. Will serve our ODI team much better in the long run. Mosher 1
tweaker Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 Yuvraj is 6 short of playing in 300 loi.BCCI will do him a favor to complete ghe landmark of playing in.300 loi
Ankit_sharma03 Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 4 is to higher position for Yuvi in anycase..... tweaker 1
maniac Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 Handsdown Rahul...if he turns out a failure then someone else but Yuvi is done and dusted...thank him for his service and get him a commentary gig.
PSB_Zone Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 Yuvraj pitted against Rahul is a no contest..Rahul all the way.. Rahul will play at no 4 in future instead of opening Pant and rohit should be our opener maniac, express bowling and tweaker 3
Tibarn Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 I prefer Rahul, as we should aim to both win the CT and build toward the WC. Yuvi can potentially outperform Rahul in the CT, but will he be able to play at the WC?
SecondSlip Posted January 19, 2017 Author Posted January 19, 2017 Looks like Yuvraj has won this battle and SEALED that #4 spot! express bowling 1
