That batting is incredibly weak unfortunately.Regardless of how good the bowling is , strong batting is massive for success in IPL .

Being a half Delhi boy, I have always supported Delhi team but I still feel they should have bought Virat Singh, Vishnu Vinod and Irfan Pathan. I m not a big fan of Nair whose strike rate and six hitting ability is not as strong.

Also, hate the fact that they bought Angelo Mathews over the likes of Indian all rounders considering Mathhews has been minting indian money without winning a single ipl match in his own for last godknows who many seasons.

Billngs and De Kock are two bats who are as good as anyone in 2020 just not as popular names as others. Those two along with selecting between the likes of Braithwaite, Matthews isn't a bad option.

 

Also when fit, Corey Anderson is a better 2020 batsman than overated Stokes. So Delhi has a good buy in Anderson.

 

Dravid just needs to find a good batting order to make sure DD's batting order get's the right player at the right order.

 

Dekock and Iyer opening for example and then Pant 1st down, followed by Billings then Anderson etc.

 

Important to not have both overseas bats open but to play one at top and the other little lower.

De Cock is quality but the likes of Billings , Duminy are average at best .May play flickering knocks but not good enough to be mainstay .Same for Anderson the batsman too.

Also Dekock Billings Anderson Mathews already fills the 4 slots ,then bowling looks weak and lower order batting will look powder puff as well.Wasting the slot of Rabada or Cummins for Billings is criminal.

 

That's without getting into the Indian batsman who have virtually zero international experience.

 

This is always the major issues when u don't have mainstay Indian batters .They have always been the key to success ,the only exception has been SRH (and RR but that's different) and even they had the likes of Dhawan.

 

Anyway this is what I would go with honestly form the squad that looks

Good team, however, we also need to remember that Delhi will play most of their games in Kotla where there will be assistance for the spin bowling. 

 

So for home games, I will play Rabada every game for now as Zaheer might not play every game and Shami isn't the best twenty20 bowler so we will need to have a strong pace attack and I also will start with Duminy who can bowl spin also

Also one important point, Delhi's youngsters like Pant were pretty raw until last year. This year, they are going to be playing in IPL as completely different players which does make more interesting for Delhi as now they will be at their real best.

DD is good at giving young players a shot but their over rotation policy hurts them...sometimes it's good to make the players compete for a permanent slot than rotating them just for the heck of it.

 

Also hats off to the DD team owner...this has been their policy right from the start

I mean playing Billings on away games. Dor home games, Duminy has to as he gives us spin option also.

There isn't much between Rabada and Cummins as bowlers (Cummins is faster and Rabada is more accurate) but the key difference is Cummins is an excellent lower order bat and hit big .

 

As for the team , just look at the middle order , Pant ,Bawne and Tare are completely unproven and Duminy is average .This will always show through under pressure .

 

Mathews is absolute must if just for shepearding DD middle order and performing under pressure.

May be. I feel Tare can come good and cann bat with good strike rate, surely more than Bawne. Matthews is someone who will play a lot as he doesn't leave Delhi team unlike Dekock, Rabada etc.

Duminy has zero 50 from ten innings in last IPL and with a SR of 120 .If u use up a crucial overseas spot, should be a decisive player .

Matthews if he bowls will be that much more indispensable. As a batsman alone he is not that valuable as there are better hitters.

I will start with him at least in games at Kotla and use Duminy since he can bowl good spin and has bowled well at Kotla.

 

Spinners can really change the game as we have seen in the past with Mishra, Tahir Duminy bowling well there together last year. So Duminy is good to play at Kotla always.
