If we get them all out in reasonable time,Virat can shut some of his detractors on this forum about his performances on tough track.Likes of Chandimal and Mendis in the recent past have shown,it can be done with positive intent.

 

I reckon Virat must be slightly exhausted after such a long season but I hope he has one more great innings in him this season,preferably similar to Sachin's in 1998.

Kohli has done it several times in ODIs. Test is completely different.

Exactly 19 years ago, Australia subdued a strong Indian batting lineup in the first innings and their lower order gave them a valuable 70+ lead. India roared back in the second innings and posted a strong total scoring at nearly 4 RPO and bowled Australia out for <200.

Indian batsmen have not even shown half of the application that the Aussies have shown. Lot depends on Pujara and Nair who I feel are the our best players of spin. Rahul has played really well but he can be Boom or Bust. Kohli is mentally very strong and can overcome this slump. Lets hope he steps up. Rahane and the rest of the batsmen don't offer any hope.

In some other forums where people were claiming this is going to be an easy 4-0 whitewash in India's favour, I was smiling inside at those delusions.

 

Three of the four venues are making their debuts, and the fourth venue happens to have a relaid pitch.

 

When you have no clue how the pitch is going to behave, it gets tricky.

 

And our fielding is atrocious. Also, we cannot bat on turners to save our lives.

 

Kumble has a lot to answer for this debacle.

You were smiling inside because you would have looked like a total fool if you predicted anything other than a 4-0 in favor of India, you can come out and show your smug smile to the world now but no one and I mean NO ONE could have predicted what is happening right now.

I don't bank on Pujara other than batting time. Pujara's the sort of player who bats for a session and a half and still manages to get out for 20 odd. Here we need someone to bat time and score runs. Rahul, Kohli, Nair are someone I'm looking at. Vijay would've been an asset as well if he hadn't been dropped for this game.

I saw no Vijay in the team and assumed he was dropped. My mistake if he's out injured. Regarding Pujara, i would like him to be a bit more positive at times when he gets in. If you bat out time you should have runs against your name. The "bat out time" approach works on green pitches where you ensure the batting conditions get better once you have spent enough time. But on these pitches batting out time doesn't help unless runs are scored coz batting conditions won't get better and whoever gets in has to score bulk of runs. I'm not expecting Pujara to score hundreds but he should score in 60s if he bats for a session and a half like Renshaw and Marsh instead of getting stuck in 20s.

Our test team is looking very mentally tired to me.   

 

17 tests scheduled  in 9 months maybe the reason.    (  I feel that around 12 tests a year is ideal and keeps the team sufficiently fresh but with lots of games to play.  )

 

In such a scenario, a spectacular comeback won't be easy.

 

We need to dismiss the Aussies ASAP, for us to stand a chance.

So shouldn't be much of tiredness .Maybe Kohli becoz he was captain but not sure about other batsmen particularly considering all of them were test specialists.
