velu
Our lower middle order Today we might have scored 325++ if we had prime UV/Dhoni batting together. #4 - Vacant #5 - Vacant #6 - Vacant #7 - Pandya we got 3 vacant batting positons which can be taken by anyone. Dhoni can take one of the vacant psotions ( possibly #4 ) . Need to find 2 lower middle order batsmen who can score from the ball 1 as soon as possible. Unstable Joe
Rahul or Pant should take #4. Preferably Rahul. Gill is very exciting, but he is not ready yet. No point throwing him to the wolves so early in his career. #5 should go to Hooda or Shankar, both can bat decently enough and pitch in with the ball too. #6 should be Krunal Pandya. Can play according to situation and accelerate too. See IPL 2017 final innings where he scored 40-odd and played the match-winning innings. Also, he bowls very economically. On top pof all this, he is also a left handed batsman, the kind of which India are lacking in the current XI. Must be tried asap in ODIs & T20s imo. This way we have 7 bowlers : 4 proper bowlers, Pandya bros & Shankar/Hooda. Link to comment

Vilander
KL Rahul and Gill are ready. Dhoni does give a vibe of being terminally tired. He needs to get his 10k soon. Link to comment

Agreed. No point throwing them to the wolves so early. This forum is full of guys who are in complete support of a guy when they see him perform well in a match and hype him to the moon. Then abandon him when he starts struggling. A recent eg. is Rahane, when he scored 80-odd in the first or second ODI, many guys were over the moon, wanting him to open the innings and be a permanent fixture in the team. Now, the same guys have turned on him. These guys simply forget the past of a cricketer, and simply jump on the hype train without thinking about anything else. Link to comment

If so agree. KL is a good option too. Gill I feel needs a couple more years. This is the lineup I'd like to see for the 2023 WC: KL Rahul Risabh Pant (wk) Virat Kohli (c) Shubman Gill Deepak Hooda / Vijay Shankar Krunal Pandya Hardik Pandya Kamlesh Nagarkoti Kuldeep Yadav Yuzvendra Chahal Jasprit Bumrah As for 2019 WC, I'd go with: Rohit Sharma Shikhar Dhawan Virat Kohli (c) KL Rahul Rishabh Pant / MS Dhoni (if they are hell bent on picking him) Krunal Pandya Hardik Pandya Kuldeep Yadav Bhuvneshwar Kumar / Mohd. Shami Jasprit Bumrah Yuzvendra Chahal Mosher and express bowling 2 Link to comment

surajmal
Gill doesn't have to be ready now. You play him now to make sure he is ready by WC time. Link to comment
