BD is a strong favorite to win the current game, and definitely more deserving than NZ to make it if Australia loses.

One should stay humble. Things change fast, if Aus and Lanka win, they both will be going back sooner than they think. We just gave both a beating of their lives , losing to India so badly has ensured even winning CT will not make up for it . :) Ultimate_Game 1

Sl's best bowler, Malinga, is on a decline and they have average bowling attack at best. As for their batting, they have a few youngsters who have potential but that batting lineup shouldn't keep anyone awake at night. Fact is we messed up and took them way too lightly after the Pak match. If we had played anywhere close to our potential we should've won the match and now we are in a spot where we have to beat a much stronger opponent in SA to progress. I didn't expect India to win the tourney but I did expect them to reach semis at the very least and now even reaching semis is in jeopardy.

Yeah bur since you have no faith in the team, what would they have done after reaching Semis? What's the point of wanting to get to semi, if the team is still going to stick to the same nonsense. Better this way - now they are under some pressure, either they will change their tactics, or change the personnel, or lose. From your perspective its a win/win, no? Unless you wanted a meaningless semi-final qualification?

But to lose the way we did against SL is not I expected and IMO should not be acceptable to any Indian fan. Adi_91 1

I don't disagree with you, but in the medium term, I think its better for the team that they had this timely loss - its a learning opportunity. Getting through to the Semi after beating Pak, SL and losing to SA would have papered over the issues.
Franco Vazquez Posted June 9, 2017 Posted June 9, 2017 There are actually many similarities.First match thumping then rain saved them and now 260 odd chased in must win game Ultimate_Game 1

A loss to SA would've been an eye opener too but our spot in semis would've been booked. Now we have a Q/F to win if we have to reach semis.

I never like cliff hangers...should have closed the deal...also such a high pressure must win game in the league stages can drain a lot out of you before knockouts. Look at the Pakistani or even Lankans they got such a beating that they went with a career free approach in their games-now watch one of them choke. If India sneaks through then the task will be more uphill for us Ultimate_Game 1

If India sneaks through then the task will be more uphill for us What hurts me the most, and I guess most Indian fans, is that we can see that the Indian team overall is much better than SL. If you compare the bowling, the only SL bowler you can deem a threat is Malinga and even he's on a decline as we saw during IPL. As for batting SL have a bunch of untested youngsters and were struggling with injuries. We should've beaten them. While batting we didn't attack their part time and lesser bowlers enough and showed them way too much respect despite having wkts in hand. And while bowling we waited for SL batsmen to make mistakes and never attacked at any stage in a bid to pick up wkts. Quite disappointing IMO and now we are left in a position to beat SA to get into semis and we should never have been in this position. Adi_91 1

Nope this is better, we got a wake up call before the knock outs and we are under pressure even before the knock out stage starts, so if we win this pressure game we'll definitely gain a lot of confidence from this and this might propel us to another tournament victory, where as we have seen in the past that when a team reaches the final without being tested then they have a bad day on the final and lose despite being the best team in the tournament. There is little difference in losing in the semis or getting knocked out here, yeah it will hurt our ego a little but I prefer getting knocked out in group stage than getting knocked out in semis, because getting knocked out in group stage will evoke strong reactions and faster changes Vilander and sandeep 2

We wouldnt have got a reality check because we would've taken the game lightly as we would've already qualified for the semis, seriously semis isn't a big deal at all, if we can't beat SA then we won't beat england or australia in the semis too, if we deserve to go through then we'll beat sa and if we don't then we didn't deserve it in the first place, champs trophy is no world cup that I want to win at any cost, we already won the last edition, team combination is more important at this stage to prepare for the real world cup in 2 years I6MTW 1
