That's where selectors come in. A professional sportsperson will always think that he can come back and that he has more time and it's up to the selectors to determine whether that's the case. This is the reason Pant should be given a go and in bi-laterals they can play alongside sharing duties as wkt keeper. By the time WC 2019 rolls in it should be an easy decision to make.

Don't exaggerate.  He's very good at executing Dhoniconda when spin is effective.   Horrible in test match tactics.

I am not talking about test matches. He is effective when there is a clock ticking over batsmen head. Tests are more of individually brilliant players

Tests require complete performances by players and teams.  Tactics and strategy play a massive role in tests - and Dhoni's toolkit for tests was repeatedly exposed as quite limited.  No shame in it, his cricket brain is not well wired for tests.  Still an ODI legend.

A great test team will allways have great individual players. A superfast bowler with spray bullet bowling can produces about 3-4 wicket taking deliveries or one spell where he will rip through opponent line up. You need batsmen atleast to the quality of likes of  Cook or Trott who can just see of bowler after bowler.  Any lower quality and you struggle against quality opponents.

 

Ind odi, you cant do that. You cant live with Cook, Or spray bullet. as one is too slow and other is expensive. Only area where I think MSD is at fault is not undertanding this very basic difference and hence giving preferrence to PK over Yadav. On batting front, i think it was too much for him to drop legends like Sehwag, Sachin,Dravid, Laxman.

I think he has to slip down the order. No 6 or 7. Pandya has to come above him. He is not fit to walk in 3 down anymore. We also lack a dependable no 4.

no pandya is at perfect number,dhoni cannot much at lower batting slots now
