Ravi Shastri new India head coach

Recommended Posts

There has been a disagreement amongst cac. Ganguly doesn't like RJS. Sachin likes RJS and so does Kohli, and Sachin has even influenced RJS to apply. RJS would apply only if he got the job. The interview with others was a farce. Since Ganguly was forced to agree with RJS, he made sure RJS doesn't get his support staff - mainly Bharat Arun the fast bowling coach. So he made sure Zaheer is selected and Dravid will tour overseas, so he can keep a eye out on the team - RJS with his philandering ways would let the boys be on the dance floor till 2 AM before the match day. It will not happen now.

BCCI never asked CAC to pick support staff, only the coach. Now RJS will be back to his old job - team director and talkBoy only.

Good work Dada!

Crazy decision, They needed to select a coach, and the coach can recommend his support staff. Instead, they have selected 3 coaches. All of them are big names, and their influence alone will mean they will have a say in everything.

The whole Kumble/Kohli issue is because of incompatibility, so how will the teamwork work between those 3 coaches? It's stupid work done by commitee.

And people clearly underestimate Ravi. He is a good coach, knows his players well and can handle them enough. He is not a headmaster, instead rather put an arm around the shoulder. And generally at the highest professional level, managers with soft skills are more successful. Look at the football managers.

Successful director/coach in prior stint in 2015-16 for starters.  Possibly helped in bringing about Kohli's return to form. Ability to work with the captain.  Heck, the captain wanted him back. Knows the game having played it at the highest level and staying connected to it after playing days were over. Finally, like a tracer bullet, he is out of the commentary box.

He did not initiate anything and team won on its own momemtum. He has no coaching experience and I highly doubt he knows how to study game films, look at stroke mechanisms and suggest changes.Captain wanting him back means nothing to me.

I have to agree with you he is out of the soap box.

Biggest leecher in cricket.

I think Ganguly played a major role in getting Zak as bowling Coach and dravid as batting consultant for overseas. Its kind of makes Shastri as team spokesperson.

Yes most media r reporting it too.

Shastri wanted Bharat Arun as bowling coach but Ganguly insisted on Zaheer and hence the delay yesterday.

Luckily Ganguly got his way .

The players' concerns are thought to centre mainly around Kumble's man-management skills. In the words of one official familiar with the details, Kumble has been conducting himself like a "headmaster" at a school. Such an approach, the official said, "had not gone down well" with the players who are used to a more relaxed dressing room. Some players - not the bigger personalities like Kohli or MS Dhoni - have felt "a bit intimidated" by Kumble's approach.

Such has been the approach, the official said, that some of the injuries that have ruled players out during Kumble's tenure were not strictly cricket related. "Kumble was pushing hard. The bulk of them [injuries] are non-cricketing injuries. One of the players was stressed out. So the team is not a happy lot."

I only remember Shami's injuries, which other players have been injured during Kumble's tenure?

This makes it seem like Kumble was over-training the lads.

We have one in theory.... but a replacement is most welcome.

We should bring in LSRK as spin bowling coach.

He is supposed to be good  and it would remove him from the commentary box

any positions for Manju too...pls..then we can be rid of the pain and unmute while watching cricket. atleast one positive from this.

We can make Bhogle and Manju as coaches as well. Not that they know anything, but at least they will be gone from commentary. :phehe:

Manju can be  " Pessimism Coach ".  His role will be to interact with opposition players in a friendly manner. After his " pep talks ", they will feel down in morale and pessimistic and won't be able to play optimally.     :phehe:.     He won't be allowed to talk to our team.

We can also make him a free bowling coach for opposition domestic teams. He can teach domestic bowlers to forget about pace and stick to line and length. That will be one way we can finally win a series in SA/Aus. With Manju's bowling advice, they will only produce dibbly-dobblers bowling 125 kph thunderbolts.

A coach is a mentor to a team. He is a friend and an elder buddy.

The BCCI press release explains the duties of new India coach Ravi Shastri

:hysterical:

On a more serious note:

http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/video_audio/1110570.html

Basically Gaurav Karla said:

  • Shastri was in favor of Bharat Arun remaining bowling coach, but he was overruled and Zaheer was made the bowling coach.
  • There was disagreement among the committee with making Shastri coach, so a strong personality like Zaheer was put in
  • Sachin strongly backed Shastri for coach
  • Shastri was chosen for his man-management skills, his ability to build relationships with players, his comfort with the captain, and being an inspirational figure who can uplift the team when it is down.
  • Shastri isn't known to be detail-oriented
  • Zaheer was chosen partly because of his rapport with the current set of bowlers.
