Different uniforms for smart, weak students in Kerala school

The authorities in a Kerala school have decided to classify students based on their excellence. While 'smart' students are asked to wear white uniforms, the 'weaker' ones have to wear red-striped shirts. Such segregation could lead to a massive mental stress in the students at an impressionable age.

Speaking to TIMES NOW, the school principal said that this system was introduced to inculcate a sense of competition in the students and was done for the student's benefit.

He also said that the uniforms were not based on class performance but on co-curricular performance and other activities.

Activist Kancha Ilaiah slammed the move and said that it could prove to be harmful to the students.

This is quite disturbing. This hinders any growth and interest in education from a child's perspective. He/She will always think of themselves as a 'LOSER' who can't achieve anything.

There was segregation like this when I was in school too. The good students were put in one section and poorer students in another section. This meant classes could be taught in a particular way(slowly) to weaker students to make them understand a bit better while the better students didnt need that help. It worked because 90 % of students used to get good grades there.

They are doing this openly. Other schools do this without the uniform code. This mentality has to change. Not many schools teach life skills. Marks are everything.

In my school in mumbai it was the same. It was not done openly but we know which sections have toppers and which sections didn't.

we had badge's for class topper , top 10 , subject topper , monitor etc
