Has the Declaration come little too late?

Pitch is still flat and if you want to have ability to keep attacking fields you need 400 plus.SL just batted 135 overs in first innings and Karunarathne has higher second innings average.400 would eliminate any chance of their winning and it will give Kohli ability to attack all day tomorrow.

First test also declaration did not come late, you cannot take decisions based on weather. Some People after the fact.

What you are saying is called playing safe and defensive strategy against such poor side, which is opposite of what Kohli/Shastri keep on saying in media. And when it is done to give a chance to your players to achieve their 50, it looks even bad. Doing this against other teams would have high chance of us missing out on a win. Simple.

1. Was Lankan First inning wasnt played on day 5?

2. Is that 10 runs thats what was indeed needed to make a difference

Day 5  means you don't have to have big total ? Pitch is still flat.

Why are you so averse of them getting to fifty. When did you want them to declare.

In this t20 era, if any side has wickets in hand they can score 100 plus in mandatory overs. He has given his bowlers 120 plus overs technically to get other side out.

So I don't think it is playing safe.

He waited one extra over and you are making a big deal about it.

No he wanted Rohit's 50. Instead of him, If Rohit would have got out, It would have been immediate declaration.

No, There are two things wrong here. First, Captain just prooved that he can and will never walk the talk. Guy makes loose statement like "Personnel Milestone ..." while keep doing the same thing again and again. So FFS, why tajke moral high ground when there was/is no moral high ground. Infact, why didnt someone ask him, Does he thinks all greats before him, if slowed while reaching a fifty or hundred, Didnt it meant a combination of opponent team putting a better field, brought back best bowlers and mental pressure on the batsman himself.

While, Allthough I do not think above is wrong but unlike blind fans, I can see Kohli is pushing a agenda where by certain sets of tailunts/pensioners are consistently given chance after chance while real talents who can really become a star are chopped on first available opportunity or simply not considered because they fail some criteria. If every star player in past would have behaved so, Kapil wont have let Sachin or Dada wont have choosen MSD. We wouldnt have had Jumbo, Sehwag,Dravid,Tendulkar Dada playing as a unit.

Kohli can be effing great player, But when there is a chance that we can have a player greater than himself, He should invite and nurture him into side.

Tendulkar legacy is not just how great he was a bat, His legacy is how many batsmen India produced because of him. Kohli is so pathetic that Kohli fans are talking about how great Kohli is because he is producing great fast bowlers from India. Serious lack of ingenuinity.

Its evident on icf itself. He is such a genious of bat with a massive PR machinel, what we see is a lot of fans can not turn blind eye to what Kohli is doing to the team.

Nonsense, India is always a country where batting has been focal point.Sachin was leading batsman of his generation. Gavaskar was leading batsman of his generation.Kohli is leading batsman of this generation. It has got nothing to do with Sachin's legacy.

Rohit may not be a great test batsmen but he definitely is one of six best batsmen in the country as of today and he deserves to go to SA.I don't know what you are talking, what batting talent has he stopped.

If delaying declaration by one over is the greatest sin Kohli has committed as a captain, I would take him every day as my captain.

The declaration thing is a bit overblown, but playing Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma ahead of KL Rahul is a violation of meritocracy.   KL Rahul is a proven test batting stud.   How is he not in India's top 6 batsmen ahead of Rohit?  Arguably even Dhawan?

One wonders what would have happened to Rahane if he wasn't VC - the guns that were trained on Pujara last year for his "Strike rate issues" may have shifted over to him, in order to create space in the Middle order for Bunty's Jijaaji.

From a captaincy perspective, its very clear that Kohli's got a lot to learn in terms of tactics - he's repeatedly shown a pattern of mismanaging his bowling resources - he underbowled Jadeja in that pivotal Bangalore test until it was almost too late - and he has under-bowled Ashwin against SL this series.  His chase-the-ball field placement changes during the game are almost farcically legendary at this point.   Especially given that our test Wicket-keeper is not one to take a pro-active role in this department.

Didn't Rahul play 2 tests in the series, the same number as Dhawan and Vijay.Rahul is an opener so out of three one has to sit. Rahul is good but let us calm down on calling a stud.

Rahane's if he is kicked out of the playing or Pujara's  SR problem are their own making and as a captain you are obligated to other members to give them a chance if others are struggling that needs to happen in future too if Kohli is a good captain.

To me Banglore test was won by Kohli's sheer determination and his ability to rally the team after being down and out of the series till that second day. That along with Dhoni's captaincy in Nagpur to choke Australia in 2008 have been best bits of captaincy I have seen from an Indian captains.

What you are doing is just nitpicking if that is worst Kohli is doing as a captain , he will be fine.

Bangalore test win was set up by a pivotal performance by Jadeja - a bowler that VK gave the ball to, only as a last resort.   Revisionist history won't fly when you are discussing things with people who watched the games in question.   I give VK a lot of credit and slack as captain - Not every captain is a born genius when it comes to tactics etc - as long as he learns from his mistakes and doesn't keep repeating them, I'm very happy with his leadership.  But let's call a spade a spade.

You sure mate? Having seen your posts from the past, you'll absolutely turn against rohit and the team management once he begins to fail away from home.not sure what's your point of meritocracy in case of rohit being selected ahead of Rahul

Every captain has right to chose what bowler to bowl at any time.If Kohli has some norm which he wants to follow he is fully allowed to do it.

Jadeja might have picked up wickets but it was the fast bowlers who kept them in game.

Kohli is not immune to making mistakes every captain makes them.Kohli has shown he likes to bowl bowlers spinning away from batsmen that is his nature.Even today he brought on Ashwin first when Jadeja has shown he is very dangerous to lefties.

Who is it you want to be selected ahead of him,Rahul is not an option there. I was never a fan Rohit but I don't see anyone who is better than him sitting out of the team.

You will ruin Rahul's career if you keep changing his position. He is better off staying as an opener or as a middle order batsman.

One thing Kohli has shown as a captain , he is not averse to change the team composition.Dhawan will not feature in many matches overseas so Rahul will get lot of matches to prove himself.

Seems like OP just woke up in the middle of the match and decided to write this. The runrate was excellent by both of the teams, meaning it was a quick outfield and runs were coming easy. You don't want to risk that by giving lot of time to Lankans.

People keep saying that Rahul was dropped to accommodate Rohit.>>> That is completely wrong.... Rahul has been dropped to accommodate Shikar....

You could make case for Rahul or Shikar..>> Virat chose Shikar..>> I would have taken Rahul but that's about it....

But Rohit is in because Pandya requested for rest for this series. If we play an allrounder or 5 bowlers, Rohit will sit out.> >That is the simple equation... If you tell me there are better number 6 batsmen in domestics, that is a completely different argument..>>

But pls don't bring Rohit into discussion for dropping Rahul!!!!! They are completely unrelated.... (You just don't want to take any of Vijay/Rahul/Shikar for a middle order spot.)

Posted

Rohit will be first batsman to be shipped out once Pandya comes in. I feel they wanted to test out all six batsmen.

If Rahane was in fine form I bet Vijay Shankar would have been playing these matches instead of Rohit. But they know Rahane is in terrible slump and if they chose Shankar they would be leaving batting too thin.

Rohit is probably the 17th man of the 17 who will travel to saf,if it was a 16 men squad he shouldn't have been there!!
