Agree Cook probably wouldn't make much difference, whether he plays or some unproven opener, the result would be the same. But Anderson in home conditions is irreplaceable. Otherwise we're stuck with Jake *ing Ball. Things are that bad. Even youve got to admit that Anderson and Broad are english swinging tracks bullies ( useless abroad) the same way current Indian generation of spinners ( ash and jadeja) are beasts at home but totally inaffective on overseas pitches. On the plus side India is giving importance to pace bowlers and we have an ever improving bunch of them coming up. England on the other hand cannot produce a single decent spinner and now even the pace bowlers available to them are mediocre at best. Anderson and Broad will stick on come what may till India tours because they know english conditions will the best chance they have to beat India.

I mention the words "home conditions" and "never a threat overseas" multiple times! Broad is past it full stop. Rather he retired than Anderson. sandeep 1
Khota Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Jimmy is a thug. Should have been jailed for physically assaulting Jadeja. Thug.

Anderson is getting older and losing pace - even with his skills, there's a point where you are just not sharp enough to be effective. Maybe he finds a way to stretch it out for another year, maybe not. Besides, I expect the Indian team to win the series in England this time around, and I want Jimmy in the team when we beat them.

Gollum Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Nah Jimmy is still a legit match winner in UK and his favorite punching bag team is touring there next year.

Fair enough on the losing pace point. Personally I think he'll stick around for another couple of years as long as he stays fit, since the next Ashes is in 2019, and the cycle of the England cricket team begins and ends with the Ashes. Absolutely no point taking him on tour though.

Yes, he is 5kph slower but that is how it goes when you are a 35yr fast bowler. But his accuracy and bowling nous has improved as his pace dipped.

Average was 35 before he got 4 wickets today after the batsmen had finished smashing it around. Average might go back to that by the end of the series...who knows. I am an Anderson fan myself but this stat is as deceiving as his average of 14 in last UAE tour. Barring the 5fer in Adelaide, Anderson has been impactless this Ashes.
