Pace difference between two sides in Ashes

Funny thing is the fastest English bowler Woakes has looked the least threatening where as Anderson who is not the fastest looked

Decent atleast in patches.

 

Having said that it is clearly the pace of Aussies that has blown away the Poms.

But Hazelwood has gotten faster  from what we saw last year.

i know mcg hit the low 140s, but hazy can hit the high 140s occasionally (e.g. 148-149). I saw a lot of mcg, and cannot recall those type of balls. whatever mould he is from, he is really the rock as you said. reminds me of rhino in some ways - very diff bowlers, but their consistency and sustained pressure are notable. others like starc, johnson, etc can be more destructive on their day but these 2 were arguably the fulcrum.

I have never seen raw pace blowing Indian batsmen away in recent years, even Johnson and Starc did not blow Indian away in 2014.I have seen raw pace blow away England and also SA.

 

Some of England batsmen look scared , Broad especially looks like he does not want any part of this pace barrage.

Current generation Indian bats have improved leaps and bounds against raw pace but regressed against spin and swing bowling.

I agree, although even in the past genuine swing bowling was not easy to counter. Among the Fab 4, Dravid and SRT (for most of his career) did very well, but Laxman and Sehwag had trouble. I think the biggest regression has been against spin - still cannot fathom how mo ali did so well against us.

Swing with 80-85 mph is very tough for anyone I don't care who it is, they will have problem.Anderson causes heaps of problems because he can swing late and has enough pace.

 

Ali did well against us for one reason , they looked him as release bowler as they were getting nothing from Broad and Anderson and they took chances against him.

 

They hammered same Ali in India where Broad and Anderson did not have same leash.Ashwin not getting enough wickets overseas has two things , him not being good enough and most important thing is there is no pressure created by fast bowlers.

 

Even in the chase of 448  in Joburg, our pacers were creating no pressure for Ashwin to be successful.

but ashwin was particularly toothless in this particular innings too. although he isn't a spinner who can take lots of wkts abroad (IMO), I think he must have improved to some degree since then. that whole test left a real bitter taste in the mouth - a test that we should have won at least by dint of scoreboard pressure.

That and CT finals are big black mark on both Ashwin and Jadeja.Even recently Kotla test also Ashwin looked toothless when pitch was not assisting him.

 

spinners need to come to party or India is not winning anything.

Starc and Cummins can blow hot and cold but this guy is the rock on which their pace attack is built.

He always had pace. Even in India, heb bowled 140+. He was the quickest bowler in 2010 u19 WC clocking close to 90 mph.

Seems like you forgot Gabba test last time which was the only quick bouncy pitch on that whole tour.

Woakes fasteat? He barely crossing 135. Broad has been the fastest of whatever I saw.

maybe on avg pace, but woakes had the highest speed deliveries. he seems to be someone who can bowl steadily in the high 80s (in mph).

Umesh will leak runs by the bucket. Pace does not mean, you bowl badly.  All three Aus bowlers dont bowl bad balls. While both Shami and Yadav has the habit of bowling too many boundary balls.  Also, those three pacers are all 6'3 and over. We will need taller guys and than BK, Umesh, Shami as all three are 5'10' or shorter. At least, 1-2 taller bowlers. Shami can play if doing well and fit. Need to try Ankit Rajpoot, Aniket Chaudhary before that, two 6'3 and 6'4 bowlers, can bowl mid to high 80s. Navdeep Saini is another good option.
