wanted_desi Posted December 19, 2017 Posted December 19, 2017 Is Shami still in the picture for WC 2019 from team management's prospective? Or he is going Ashwin/Jadeja way, where they are replaced by Kuldeep/Chahal?
SUMO Posted December 19, 2017 Posted December 19, 2017 Shami wasn't bad at death overs. And he is a genuine wicket taker with new ball and in middle overs. He can play ahead of bhuvi.

maniac Posted December 19, 2017 Posted December 19, 2017 I will pick Shami over Bhuvi in ODI's if it comes down between the 2....even though Bhuvi would be my 3rd seamer. Bhuvi's USP was providing wickets upfront, now he is better at the death but his initial spells are a little letdown. We have 2 very good death bowlers but someone has to pick up wickets up front too...here is where Shami comes in

Our kaptaan is confused hence taking some useless suggestions from some cunning oldies like dhoni and shastri, no wonder he dropped umesh and shami who both average's 20 vs Pakistan for a bowler who averages almost 40(ashwin) against the same team in ct final. bowl_out Posted December 19, 2017 Posted December 19, 2017 Shami is too fragile to play multiple formats.. He is our best Test bowler, so we keep him to one format.. I wouldn't mind bringing him back for overseas ODIs, particularly in SA, Eng, Aus and NZ.. and for ICC tournaments.. But would not waste him in useless ODIs against SL, WI, Ban and others. beetle 1

Both Shami and Umesh played in WC under Dhoni. Clearly it was Kohli who decided to drop them. Shows how good he is in terms of team selection. Shunya, beetle, wanted_desi and 1 other 4

That's why I said he is confused captain, I have lost all hopes from kohli to be honest, dhonis formula in odi cricket was to choke the opposition with spinners he loved his spinners was also high on unchange team, reports say that kohli didn't spoke a word to kumble in that ct, considering that this was is first major tournament as a captain and how confused he was as a captain I am 200% sure it was dhoni who gave him that suggestion of playing 2 spinners on a pitch that had pace and bounce.

That's the issue. Since it's already proven that Dhoni backed Yadav and Shami in WC along with spinners, it is clear that Kohli went ahead on his own decided not to play to Shami.

Just before that 2015wc we played tri series with england and aus, and dhoni was seen opening the bowling with bhuvi and binny lol that backfired with massive criticism and he was forced to play umesh and shami, he immediately dropped umesh after that WC even though he did well under dhoni also in test matches umesh did well under dhoni but he was never persisted with , so you can't say he backed umesh and shami in that WC rather was forced to play them. Trichromatic Posted December 19, 2017 Posted December 19, 2017 If we divide players into 4 categories 1. Players rated 7+ Batsmen and bowlers who are too good and can perform in different conditions. 2. Players rated 5-7 Those are good and should be selected depending on form and conditions. 3. Players rated 2-4 These players make team when they are in best form or if there is no alternative 4. Players rated 0-2 Newbs, players with potential, or absolute craps. Different captains have different methods of handling players of 3rd and 4th buckets. This is where favoritism creeps in. There can be reluctance to try new ones too even if there is no favoritism. How a captain handles this group defines future. Great captains show vision and select players who are in 4th bucket but ability to go in top 2. But one thing is common, no one touches first 2 buckets. Rare examples are like how KP was treated. Kohli is probably only captain who has guts to drop players from first 2 buckets or even first bucket without any good reason. Ex - Pujara, Rahul and Shami. Those are our batsmen with 2nd highest avg, opener with highest avg and ODI bolwer with 2nd best avg. Apart from that we have already seen how he is not fully backing potentials like Kuldeep from 4th bucket either. Just like his fielding, Kohli's captaincy is big negative for this team, but it's great to see that players fighting out and winning irrespective of those negatives. At least he was arrogant not to change even after criticism. Kohli continues to remain in slips even after dropping 1000s of catches and criticism all around. Show how arrogance is stopping him for deciding what's good for the team. Gollum 1
Silva Posted December 19, 2017 Posted December 19, 2017 Its very bizzare that bumrah and shami are arguably the 2 best indian odi pace bowlers ever but they have yet to play a single odi together.
