Day 1 Pace Bowler Performance 135/1 - Slap in the face for Kohli who dropped India's best pacer

Dropping Bhuvi and using the same "Horses for Courses" policy that allows useless hacks like Rohit and Dhawan to play on seaming pitches but doesn't allow Bhuvi to play on what are viewed as flat pitches, Kohli deserves this slap on his face.

Day 1 of away Test is best time for pacers to exploit the conditions and get early wickets. Instead what we got was 148/1 at one stage before Ashwin and some generous run-outs from the South Africans pulling things back. When Ashwin is your best bowler on Day 1 of an away Test, you know that your pacers were seriously cr@p. The Kohli-Shastri combo deserves this though. SA never drops Philander, who is even slower than Bhuvi, when they see a flatter pitch and they have got good dividends from that policy with Philander averaging 21 in Test matches after almost 50 Tests.

This constant chopping from the team is eventually going to completely degrade Bhuvi's confidence and ultimately that seems to be Kohli's goal to get players like Bhuvi and Rahane, who quietly go about their work out of the team.

Bhuvi isn't ba mental midget like Yadav to lose confidence after a poor decision from the captain. Regarding the pitch, there is barely anything for pacers. Very disappointing pitch. No Pace or bounce. Very sluggish. It's a spinners deck. If we had Jaddu, i was confident of winning this game.

Get him loud mouths like Dhawan or "I can jump from 24th floor for captain" Ishant and he loves those personalities.

If he wanted Ishant then should have dropped Shami.

Day 1 of an away pitch always offers some juice. Our pacers were unable to exploit it. Don't sugarcoat every time they fail and provide excuses. They were cr@p. Pacers not able to swing or seam ball then default excuse is flat pitch.

It's not a good sign for players in the dressing room barring his friends .

Rkt didnt want to believe that Kohli is that dumb.sure Bhuvi would not have  been able to replicate his first test form on this pitch  but he would have done way better than Ishant freaking Sharma.

Ishant has not done badly but problem was Shami. Ishant would have had two wickets today if Parthiv had taken Amla's catch.

Yes. Pitch was flat. You probably didn't even watch the game. Any swing and seam depend on conditions and not on bowlers. Pitch does not have grass and is dry.

Average first innings score at Centurian in last five tests is 463 which means it has been a flat pitch in recent history and same was the case today.

Bhuvi will take it in his stride. He has seen thos so often.

Think of it as rest and do well in next if selected.

Unlike shami and ishant, he will be playing the LOIs too.

Bhuvi would have been tonked on this pitch. Its actually better for his supporters that he got dropped.

No. He should have played. Until he play, We won't know. He would certainly have been better than Shami. Shami is the bigger problem. Bumrah bowled his heart out in this heat, tried everything, just didn't get much response from the track. Short balls were looping up.

Shami was supposed to be our strike bowler,he will definitely get dropped for the 3rd test.when we look back on this series  it will be Shamis dismal form which is the biggest surprise and disappointment.

Lol sure he "would" have been tonked. I have to laugh at people who see Bumrah, Shami, Pandya ATCUALLY getting tonked and then speculate that Bhuvi MIGHT have been tonked. Elgar wasn't going to tonk anyone, he was begging for someone to take his wicket, all they had to do was make him play more balls

Ball was turn from the first over Ashwin bowled. Hope our batsmen dont mess up on this Pitch.

You make it sound like this was a raging turner....it was gentle slow turn with pitch flattening out more.

Benefit of hindsight. No one had predicted this even after a good look at the pitch.
