SecondSlip Posted January 31, 2018 Author Posted January 31, 2018 All this valuable time and exposure that we are wasting on failures like Rahane and Karthik should have been used to build batting benchmark strength for the upcoming World Cup. Our team is going nowhere in the batting department if we continue like this. Rahane has gotten so many chances at #4 and blew it. He doesn’t deserve to get more chances again

If the pitch is 300-320 par, then the same players have SR issues. So, the success of these two players depend entirely on the pitch. Biggest problem is that it does not help in our preparation of WC 2019. England are almost guaranteed to prepare batting beauties (330-par) as their aggressive batting style will fall apart on wickets that aid bowling. In such a scenario, you need players who can maintain good SR. But yes, I guess it is ok to try Rahane as a short-term "horses-for-courses" pick if the pitch aids fast bowling.

But Pakistan doesn't have the same luxury. Due to Rahane's power deficit, the only place he fits in the batting lineup is in the top 3. Virat and his 2 bros have those spots on lock-down.

Dhoni will struggle in SA and Aus , but eng is where he should still do well imo

Neither is a match winner that will win their team the World Cup Rahane is one of those ODI players who will never be very bad (as his defense is good to survive for few overs), but he will never win you any game against good opposition. Poor guy only has good enough timing to beat the infield, but can never clear fielders when going over the top. He uses a big swing to hit a six, so his 6's need to be predetermined, he can't just react to a bad ball and clear fielders, he doesn't have enough strength or the leverage (height and arm length) to go from his defense/default shot to 4/6 run shot. 2019 world cup will be played on roads in England, we won't need his defense. If only his parent fed him more healthy nutrition while growing up, probably was malnutrition like so many other indians. Edited January 31, 2018 by jinjar SecondSlip 1

By that logic whole team was shielded as everyone order went 1 down then normal Karun , manish , iyer all have the game to play modern day LOI cricket then rahane .Rahane cant survive with that s/r in any top team of world ......no wonder he has a poor odi career Those 3 havent even played half games as rahane M doing a meaningful comparison rahane lacks a lot in LOI LOW s/r % of dot balls is high doesnt convertstart struggles in middle overs struggles on slow pitches Cant accelerate much Doesnt have a range of shots With so many issues u cant survive in modern cricket for a big team. Yes in SL, WI he will own a place but we arent that poor a side that we need someone to score 40 runs in 60 balls Dhawan n rohit have been gr8 in odi so no one is questinoning them, in test they have been poor and nothing much has changed in present either I was talking about the tests where Rahul scored less than Rahane You guys doubted rahane and he proved you wrong. Rahul could not play flat out and he had to be shelded. You can call it a strategic move or being a coward it does not matter. I think Rahul would be fine in the long run but this series was horrendous. Dhoni gets moved up and down the order in ODI to suit him. He is trying to justify his place. If they play side by side Dinesh will look good. management is scared that Dinesh will suceed so that is why they are not playing him. Let us discuss some more when the players you back do better than players I back. If not than it is all meaningless.

It does....T20 might be slam bang cricket but you still need to have some talent to finish games in high stakes situations, score runs against quality bowling...it’s not like just because it is T20 IPl any no talent can start smacking Steyn Starc Cummins Rabada or even Ashwin Tahir Jadeja Zampa etc etc
Khota Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 You need a much better hand eye coordination to score in T20 at high level. Compared to test cricket you have to get your timings right from the first ball. IPL gives a very good idea.

If only he doeesnt throw his wkts after getting starts and if only he improves his strike rotation n doest play many dot balls he wont be needing sixes . Look at kohl's game there is no best xample for him And rahane can hit a few sixes , which is enough if ur good with strike rotation u look at gambhir, kohli, dhoni they were good as a big part of their game was strike rotation. Rahane hits a boundary in an over and then play 5 dots , hence only 4 runs in 6 balls . No point doing that. N this day n age of game u need match winner or atleast utility cricketers and rahane is neither. Just good enough to sit on bench till the next generation makes even that a tough thing for him

There is a gulf of class between Rahane and Azhar Ali - no disrespect to Ali, he's a gritty player whom I have respect for.

Just good enough to sit on bench till the next generation makes even that a tough thing for him LOI's you need to be able to clear fielders, Kohli is very much capable of doing that, remember the punch six over long on in england match?, watch Kohli under 19 matches where he hits sixes over deep cover, he chooses to play it along the ground to reduce chances of getting out. Even if Rahane plays long innings, if the chase is over 350, and others in the team fail that day, you can bet he wont be able to win the match get MOM. Rahane is not capable of doing that, he can't switch to attack and go berserk. He is ODI player from 2000's, where max scores were less than 300. Rohit has terrific position at crease, he can switch from neutral/defense position to 4/6 naturally for a less than good ball. He won games by himself for India, so don't compare him to Rahane, who has yet to do that.
