Day 1 - pitch taking good turn, also in slow side

Maharaj takes a fiver

never thought I would see the day Saffers put a slow pitch at home to counter opposition’s threat

Are they so scared of Australia’s pace attack?

That's the line an off spinner should bowl. I am sure he'll continue doing so even if he gets hit Alford a few boundaries. But dumb Ashwin would go defensive.

Maharaj took 5 wickets. Now figure out how the pitch would have played out.

Maharaja is a very good bowler especially against non-subcontinental sides. The only visiting spinner in recent years who did well IN Australia. Has taken fifers at home and in England. You don't average 25 in test cricket outside Asia as a spinner if you are average. Ashwin got a similar pitch in the second test. What did he do? Now before you come up with dropped catches, yes a few were dropped in the first innings, but no catches were dropped off his bowling the second innings still he ended up wicketless. Even commentators were calling out his wrong lines.

Both Maharaj and Ashwin bowled on the same pitch. Now before you come up with subcontinent batsmen are better players of spin, the very same batsmen have given buckets of wickets to Swann, Monty, Lyon and not to mention O'Keefe.
