you dont need to hit 150K to be successful. no bowler does that consistently.

Who is talking about 150k here? But you cant be a 120-130 kph trundler unless you can move the ball prodigiously or has the height to get bounce. Thakur doesn't have both.

dude i picked one of the slowest inning i could out of the 3 tests vs SL

 

I found Shami hitting 145 and averaging 136.5 and yadav hitting 142 avg 136 - Bhuv 140 avg 133.

Go a few tests back in the year you See umesh  Shami and even Ishant hitting 90 + in most their innings.

saini bowls quick 87-89miles .....gurbani is a rank trundler,but gets swing.

Thakur isnt a 120-130k trundler. He hits 140k and has good outswinger. Gurbani is 120-130k.

In LOI and T20s. But does he hit the same speed in Tests? Even in the ODIs he played for India, he was going out of steam in the later overs and people in this forum was pointing that out. Gurbani moved the bowl like crazy in Ranji and if he can do that in England, then his pace is enough.

You are the one who claimed Umesh hit 150 kph even in his last test.And I just debunked it.My point is that his IPL form not necessarily be repeated in Tests as both are chalk and cheese.That is all.

Umesh hit the pitch at those hard lengths this IPL and got wickets with swing and pace. He didn't rely on slower balls and tried too many variations. It was just some good old fast bowling. So his form in IPL should be taken into consideration when we move onto the tests.

He bowled test match bowling in IPL and got success.

I am talking about his stamina/skill to sustain that over five days which is way difficult than doing it for 4 overs.

Umesh is probably the fittest among our pacers, don't think he will have any problem sustaining that intensity in tests.

Point is he has consistanly done it for close to 3 years in tests now.

Genuine quicks don’t have to bowl at 145 k all day. Frankly not wise. Steyn bowls a good first fast spell. In his second or 3rd 10k slower. Late in the evening  when he comes for last spell he just steps up again. Usually batting sides thrive in last session. That is when Steyn roars back. Umesh can adopt that template. He just needs to learn how to bowl accurate outswingers :)

Bhumi and Bumrah are certain to start. Ha pa and Ashwin will be 4th and 5th bowlers.

Umesh, ishant and shami will fight for 3rd pacer slot.

Wish we had a good left arm pacer and why not try wrist spinners, England has always struggled against WS.

Should team go with Hardik's all round abilities or pick an extra batsman to be safe?
