Indian pacers are more prone to it. Zak was hardly touching 130 when he was 33-35 and he was probably fitter than Shami. Nehra and other bowlers had similar stories. Only Srinath managed to keep pace after age of 32 and even he played till age of 34. Won't be surprised if Shami is actually 31 or 32 max. Why is his fitness so inconsistent then.. UrmiSinhaRay 1

Well Anderson was trundling badly, 128-133kph, where as shami bowled with good healthy pace 135-146kph not that a 36 yr old would in a test match, I think he bowled some 5-6 overseas on trot with good pace in England's second innings. What pace Anderson was bowling is not that point, point is bowling with intensity even if you bowl at 135. Pace goes down due top wears and tears over the years. Anderson is playing international cricket now since 2003 and is test regular at least since 2007, has bowled 70K deliveries in his career. You lose pace because of that wear and tear and not because of fitness. Akhtar was unfit at 36 but he still hit 150K. What fitness does is help maintain your intensity whichever pace you bowl. Yes wear n tear is a factor but it also depends on individuals mussel strength, Anderson isn't bowling at the same pace like he was at 30-32 years old, akhtar was a freak but no he didn't bowl 150kph at 36 yr of age at 36 in 2011 WC he bowled one at 149kph n 1 at 159kph both of them were glitches however he was still around 137kph to 145k express bowling, UrmiSinhaRay and Rasgulla 1 1 1

express bowling Posted August 5, 2018 Posted August 5, 2018 From 2016, he is averaging 23.98 with a SR of 47.6 from 19 test matches , which includes 8 tests outside Asia. He is bowling 132 k to 147 k. I don't care whether he is 5 or 85. Mosher, speedheat, Switchblade and 1 other 1 3
express bowling Posted August 5, 2018 Posted August 5, 2018 (edited) I doubt that a 34 year old can average around 138 k with a fastest of 144 k to 147 k in almost every match he plays. Edited August 5, 2018 by express bowling speedheat, UrmiSinhaRay and Mosher 2 1

Mitch Johnson and Ryan Haris are examples of high pace at that age. Edited August 5, 2018 by rkt.india UrmiSinhaRay 1

At home, it gets easier as a spinners take the center stage, bowl a lot and fast bowlers get a lot of rest in between spells and bowls far less overs than they do overseas. UrmiSinhaRay 1

His intensity was high in the 1st and 3rd sessions of the day. At this time he was hitting the deck and going for seam movement and pace. In the 2nd session, the ball was swinging a lot, so he went for swing. He is not a proper swing bowler and never looks good when he floats the ball up. The same thing happened in the 2nd innings first spell. Shami looks good when he goes for pace. His reduced intensity in certain spells outside Asia has more to do wrong choice of bowling style than fitness. Edited August 5, 2018 by express bowling
