No CSK lobby in LOI"s. Those players have actually proven to be the best in that format having won the biggest tournament in 2018 and showing that winning mentality and are deservedly rewarded by ODI selection and what did they do? Went ahead and won India another title whie many here said India would be trashed 3-0 by Pakistani in Asia cup

meanwhile bambi lobby keeps battling for bygones like Rahane and Rohit sharma to play tests and soon they may try and bring dhawal kulkarni and surya yadav too. They are a disgrace.

The best Indian batsmen in Asia Cup were Dhawan (SRH) and Rohit (MI)

The best Indian bowlers in Asia Cup were Bumrah (MI) and Kuldeep (KKR)

The worst Indian (and arguably overall) batsman in Asia Cup was Dhoni (CSK) - Avg 19, SR 62

The worst economy by any bowler in Asia Cup, which includes Hong Kong, was 9.25 by Chahar (CSK)

Gross Injustice to drop Vihari after an exceptional performance in Oval test .With a fifty &  3 wickets ,what more did a debutant had to do to justify his selection ? We keep dropping performing players and rewarding non-performance . If overseas performances are " rewarded " in this way, God save us in Australia tour .

Rahane and Dhoni should be asked to play in domestic cricket and get the runs and confidence back to justify & cement   their selection in Test & ODI squads respectively.

They keep picking TTF Umesh Yadav instead of developing new talents. Umesh might do well here but that wont change anything. At the age of almost 31, his bowling and career has not gone anywhere.

Kuldeep and Chahal had to be brought in the ODI team after Ashwin and Jadeja's failure in CT17 and earlier.   Both have been super successes.

They were forced to try Pant after Wriddhiman's injury and Karthick's poor form  ...  he scores a century in England in only his third test and looks so fluent.

Khaleel tried in the Asia Cup after Kaul looks poor in ODIs in England ...  looks like a great prospect in both the matches and picks up 4 wickets

Shaw has to be brought in after dismal performances by openers in SA and England ...   scores a century on debut and looks so confident.

Most good quality changes in the Indian team happen after disasters. There seems to be a lack of planning and foresight in Indian cricket.

Otherwise ... there is no reason to leave out Siraj and Saini from the playing 11 of this test series. If they had impressed, we would have had more options in Australia.  Who would be our pace spearhead if Bumrah is not available for even 1 test there  !

With

  • Shaw and Pant being new (but have the ability to perform)
  • Rahul being inconsistent (his honeymoon period is over. His career is at the point where if he does not perform he will lose his supporters)
  • Rahane being nonexistent (Vihari should have played)

We are currently a Pujara-Kohli line up. Though it is not a negative if these guys get runs consistently with support from the new boys. Our bowling attack is good but could have been better if Siraj were playing too

For some reason the cricket playing fraternity has gone gaga over Rahane a bit too early... similar to how we knew that Dravid  and Laxman were destined to be greats, they have all kept him in that future hall of fame probable list way too early and are now unable to move on with his consistent failures. He's like screaming with his performances that he is at best an average batsman but since the legendary status is already on the way he will get a long long rope.  He did score couple of good hundreds overseas but frankly is that enough for a career full of mediocrity? Rahane reminds me more and more of Mohammed Ashraful, the diminutive toyger batsman who ended up averaging just 22 & 24 in both forms of the game. FFS who was the last indian test specialist batter who couldn't play spin?

too early to judge Rahane in test cricket.  He still averages 40 plus despite being average at home and it is not like Laxman was successful in every series everywhere.  He also had his fair share of failures and he was not Dravid category great.  he was below a trier of Tendulkar and Dravid.  Rahane can still become someone like Laxman averaging around in mid 40s in long run.  he already has 9 test 100s bating at 5-6 in 50 tests.  Laxman had 17 in 134 tests.  He needs to be backed.

Laxman the very very special one had played lot of critical innings and will be remembered for his impact on Indian cricket. Averaging 40 is not noteworthy if you are not the special player. At this current rate Rahane will hardly find any place in our memories....

And let’s not forget Rahane was backed in the last two years. And he is still playing but has been the weakest link in our batting by averaging only 33 in "22" tests this period .... he has run out of rope

Great post , everything I wanted to say about this phoney Rahane has been encapsulated in your post. There is no denying the fact he is still getting these chances because of his supposed great record overseas, which is another fallacy as we have seen.

As you said, this is 2nd time now that an emerging batsman had been dropped for phoney unfairly.

Just for small mercies thankfully he is now gone for good in LOIs.The other day there was a great article on cricinfo about one of the worst T20 innings where his innings in 2016 SF was on top of the list.

I have had enough of this phoney.

I had mentioned multiple times here about that innings. Actually that innings was a far worse one compared to Yuvis misfortune on a turning pitch against Lankans in 2014 T20 WC. In hindsight  our mindset then under Dhoni wasn't ultra positive either to aspire for 230s when 190 was on plate.

Das bahane since the start of his career never instilled confidence,he was a dodgy case. But,we might have wasted a handful of time persissting with him,

Agree with you mate, what a mediocre innings was that

Just asked myself he never ever sealed his place as a test batsman, always been branded as ,well versed with the test format,Howcome he came into the t20 side in the first place that too in a wt20 semifinal
